INXS Rock Star Debuts

Thanks for the info again, Mike!
I KNEW that guy was gonna go!
Last night he was asked by INXS if he thought that he'd followed their advice to be more "melodic" (They were implying that he hadn't of course). He answered, "Yeah, Man, I thought it ROCKED!!"
Wrong answer-
Bye-Bye.

and I would think that although INXS may well have their new record deal and tour contract in the bag; and I'm sure they do,
If the ratings don't warrant it, the advertisers would go away, and that show is GONE! HISTORY!

The group would just have to find a replacement singer from, errr, "Craiglist" maybe???

This show is a sad joke on a good rock band who lost an equally good front man. Seeing a cover band play with a flow of mediocre posturing singers is crap entertainment as well. Too bad they don't show more INXS playing live instead. It was their decision to go ahead with this farce... very unfortunate.

A lot of people bitch about the current state of music; I simply don't listen to it. There's plenty of great music out there. You just have to search for it.

Everytime I engage in one of those 'bitch threads'...my point is-
There was a time when one did not have to search for 'it'...'it' was on AM-Pop radio('cause that's all we had in the family car until 1972).

Just wanna be clear on that.

My other gripe is the never-ending use of the word "rock" and it's various forms.

"Man, you are one rocker that rocks, dude. Our next rocker rocked his way to the top last week rocking out on one of Rock's most rocking hits!! Let's rock !!!" (song finishes) "That ROCKED! We asked you last week to bring a little more rock to this rock contest, and you answered with rock. Rock on. Stay tuned as three more rockers show you what rock songs they like to rock to!!"

I listened for this last night...laughed & thought of your post.

So-
Why not use this show as a 'Drinking Game'?
(See who can last past the 1st ten minutes)

...beats listening for "Veneer" on The Antiques Road Show!

INXS Not Trying to Replace Hutchence
Jul 12, 6:54 AM EST

Although INXS is looking for a new singer, guitarist Tim Farriss says the band isn't "in any way, shape or form trying to replace Michael Hutchence."

"What we really want is somebody who brings their own personality along and someone completely different," Farriss told AP Radio in a recent interview. The band has used guest vocalists since Hutchence died in 1997.

A new reality show to find a lead singer, "Rock Star: INXS," premiered Monday night on CBS, hosted by Dave Navarro, former guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction, and TV personality Brooke Burke.

Fifteen performers are competing on the show. The last singer standing will make an album with INXS and go on tour with the band, known for their hits "What You Need" and "Need You Tonight."

What would Hutchence say about the contest?

"I think he'd think it was kind of funny in a good way, 'cause in some ways it is," Farriss said. "But in another way, it's really an organic way to find a new singer. It's the best way we could think of."
---------------------------

Admittedly, I have not seen this show on GP, but this statement is just silly. YES, you are replacing Hutchence, he died. Or is this some type of sentimental thing?

The best way you could think of? Really? I don't think so. Like someone said earlier, try Craigslist.

Bah.

I don't imagine that INXS thought up the idea and concept for the show. I'll wager that either a Publicist, someone in Management, or a record company and/or TV business-person
"pitched" the show to the band or their people.

It gives the band publicity, which sells records and concert tix,and if it flies, makes $$ for the network.

No doubt there's a ready supply of talented vocalists and performers that an established band like INXS could draw from.
They don't need to have a "competition" like this, other than to give their career a boost.
Can't say I blame them- It's a smart move, show-biz wise,
irrespective of the musical quality, or lack thereof.

The format that the show's producers have come up with is another thing entirely- Diamond Dave Navarro, Foxy Brooke,
and the dramas and personalities of the "Rockers"
I think it's a riot- real entertainment.
Check out the House Bands reactions sometimes. Kinda tells the story I think....Hey, they're pro's, just doin' their jobs.....

RD-
This show is a Mark Burnett production(Survivor, The Apprentice, The Contender, yaddayadda)...so far, it's in the same mold.

I haven't watched any of those, except for one episode of The Apprentice. I mistakenly thought working for Donald Trump was second prize, and not working for him was first. ;)

I figure, if INXS is going to audition singers anyway, if they have fun doing it on this show, they might as well do it. There's nothing terribly serious about any of it.

I like the show too. They have some really talented signers on there but...I don't like the idea of replacing Michael Hutchense with somone that auditioned for his spot on a TV show. It makes INXS look like a bunch of Greedy and Insensitive jerks. They must need the money.

They must need the money.

No doubt that LearJet or Citation or whatever it is that they tool around in costs a few bucks to maintain, and it's been a while since they've had a hit!!!

Not to mention their outfits- That isn't Old Navy that they're wearing!

All of which makes listening to the House Band that much sweeter. They play-they don't have an act or image.
I could read volumes in the expressions of their very talented
Keyboard player/leader even for the brief time they show him on camera!

....True.... or INXS may give the "winning rocker/new lead singer" the boot!!!
Right out the LearJet....in mid-air!

"Sorry, you're just not right for INXS..."

AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!....... and down he (or she) goes!

Then, it's stay tuned for "Rockstar INXS, Season II" !

I'm usually the first one to role his eyes when someone says, "sell out", but even I have my limits. I think the show is a slap in the face to Michael Hutchence. C'mon, your singer kills himself and you create a farce of a reality to show to find his replacement?

i agree 100%

Something like this comes on TV, taking "Reality TV" where it's not been before ("Let's find a replacement singer for a famous rock band...") you gotta talk about it! It's"Miscellaneous" here, remember? Plenty of threads for talking about Locrian Modes, or "which amp is better, Walter Woods or Behringer?" you know stuff like that!

no, its not like that at all. we aren't comparing amps here. a veyr talented man killed himself. i understand that the band would want to continue, but if they can't find someone else by their own means in the 8 years following his death, going to the media and selling out is just a a horrible way to disrespect a former friend and bandmate.

i can't see anyone alive rediong sounds like "New Sensation" and "Live Baby Live" and making them even sound half as decent.

as musicians, i'm suprised that some of you don't see through the medua ploy, for those that do and still watch it, i am even more shocked. everyone is raving about how great the cover band is, that cool, then buy their cd. don't watch this crap that spits on the spirit of one of the most talented singers of the 80's & 90's

if a famous bassist suddenly took his/her life, and something like this came out "not trying to replace him/her" but just filling the part. i think more of you might object to it.

You need to relax Clay.
If it annoys you, go to another thread. This one's about the program and the performances.
The band CHOSE to do this show, in this manner, for the publicity.
Since I have to assume they were tighter with the late Mr.
Hutchence then you were, I guess it's their decision as to whether replacing him in this manner is disrespectful to his memory. They made that choice.

Read the comments- It's obvious that the posters "see through this media ploy" and are stating their opinions of the show, the performers, and the House Band whom
to my knowledge, don't plan on recording a CD- the praise for them has to do with how well they cover tunes and back the vocalists- They're all great players, that's why they were hired by the MD for the gig-That's "shocking" ???

Read the post quoting the band, saying they aren't trying to replace Hutchense, etc. etc.

Relax- it's a TV show.

Ok, you've stated your opinion, Good.
You're entitled to.

If I felt like you do, I wouldn't watch this "disgraceful" show,

and I wouldn't go to a thread and slam posters for discussing it, or supporting it if they like it for whatever reason. They're giving THEIR opinions- Do you have a problem with that?

Let's hope not. That's my opinion.

no, i don't have a problem with it.

if you read my post, you will see that i never said anything about the producers of the show, nor the band or performers.

we have different opinions. i can live with that.

My "user note"?? What's that?
You starting a file on me Clay?

This thread is about INXS rockstar show-
I suggest you contact the moderator and have the thread deleted, since in your opinion, the show is disgraceful, disrespectful, etc.
You "jumped" into this discussion" with your indignance that anyone would watch this thing.
Just don't watch it, and don't jump in on a discussion about it-OK? Keep your indignance to yourself- I may think threads discussing the greatness of (fill in the blank) suck, so I post elsewhere.
Now- relax.

i was merely expressing my opinion, which is something we all are allowed to do. yes, i quoted you, but i did not attack you. you made a statement, and i gave reason for my disagreement. it was not my choice that you attacked me for it.

i would not suggest that one of the mods delete the thread. neither of us broke any rules. we disagreed, that's all.

i expect this to be the last words to each other in this thread.
