iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

Jamup LA Comp

I just started trying this, and I cannot hear any difference no matter what the setting is for Peak Reduction. Gain I get, but no matter the Gain setting it sounds to me like changing peak reduction is not doing anything.

I have tried it in several places in the signal chain with other effects and alone.

Anyone else have an issue or anyone have some advise?

Thanks

User error, insufficient input, solved.

Thanks.

Any of you try Praxis Beats? It's $15 but it looks a bit more powerful then Easy Beats.

Though, I'm thinking that I may have to move to a DAW with the ability to be used live to get what I really need in a drum machine. What's kicking me in the butt is that many songs don't have the same measures in the verse and chorus. As an example, what if I have a 4 bar intro, a 12 bar verse, an 8 bar chorus that repeats twice, and a 5 bar ending (counting the whole note on beat 1 of measure 5). If I start at the intro and let it run, I'd like for it to stop when it gets to the last note of the ending, unless.... I tell it to go to the beginning of one of the sections. Even better would be if I could use the patterns made with Sonar X2 Producer. It's a nice dream.

It's too bad the apps don't have an option for a 7 day trial.

Now that the little magic slate is becoming more powerful I'd love to see an app that will load and process speaker impulse responses.

I bough a bunch of different IRs when I still had the Axe FX and it'd be great to be able to use them under iOS.

I haven't drilled into them, but it wouldn't surprise me if Auria or Cubasis or one of the DAWs could do this.

Just another random thought...

I almost bought Easy Beats 3, but it won't shuffle. In fact, I haven't found any that will, yet. I'm looking into DM1, now.

I haven't found DAWs that were meant to be used live. But if they can be used live, they don't mention it. It looks like I'll need to make patterns with a DAW sequencer, then find an app for live use.

I was using X2 Producer live, because they have a set list function, but it's not pattern based. You run the song from beginning to end, and that's it. Does Cubasis have a setlist/live function? That might have to do.

I guess it kinda applies to bass as a topic. I use it while playing bass. :)

You can add swing, it's done in the pattern arrangement page. There's a little dude with a golf club; tap, hold, & slide up & down to adjust.

Also, Figure does have this as well, although it's not a traditional drum machine. It sure is nice for setting up some quick beats to jam to, though!

No, Cubasis and Auria do not do that.

I played with the 'swing' setting in LE, but it didn't turn into a 'shuffle'. Does the EB3 slider go from swing into shuffle?

I was looking at the Figure manual and they are even more confusing. The Shuffle control changes the "swing factor". Ummmmmm... Swing and Shuffle aren't the same, do they really have shuffle and swing on the same control?

Wait, they aren't the same? This guy is saying they are, and that was my understanding.... I've been a "by feel" player for so long it's not impossible I am confused.

edit: aha, shuffle seems to imply swing by a measure that coincides with the existing time signature, so it's polyrhythmic like playing a 12/8 over a 4/4. Now we're talking the same language, and yeah, faking a 9/8 out of any of these ios apps I've tried has been an exercise in futility. I am obviously doing something wrong.
