iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

I thought that using Auria to record (as output in Audiobus) y would be able to use GarageBand as an input and use all the virtual instruments (strings and organs mainly) but this is not possible!
I haven't found any way of transfering the audio recorded in GB to Auria.

I guess the only solution would be to plug my iphone output to the iTrack and play the instruments (as hard as it is) and then record with Auria on my iPad.

GB - save AIFF to iTunes, then move to Auria

I'm trying to find a Lighting or 30-pin hub. I have a few things I want to plug into my iPad.
Sonic Port
Camera kit for keyboard
Charger

I haven't been able to make them work with the camera connection and a USB hub. In order to try one setup, I need a female/female adapter. Once again, I'm a bit before the my time.

I used to make MIDI merges in the 80s-90s. There's got to be a chip that can allow us to use 2-3 iOS devices at the same time.

Lol... Good :)

I remember back I the good old days of Palms and Handspring that companies started to crop up that made specialized cables to do things otherwise not possible.

You went for the Apple cable or the Apogee?? The Apple cable is to be found in ANY Apple shop. You do not live in an isolated Amish society, so if I can get the Apple unit on the day, so should you.

Wait, you can get the specialized lighting cable for Apogee JAM from the Apple Store? It's not just a lightning cable, it has what appears to be a proprietary connector on the business end.

The apogee jam is supposed to work with the proprietary to 30 pin + a 30 pin to lightning adapter. So I don't think you have to get the cable from apogee unless you prefer to have it all in once piece.

True, it does work with the adaptor (I have one and tested it myself) but I guess I read that a little differently.

If the actual cable was more reasonably priced (including the $15 S&H charge, really?) I'd rather go that route than have another fiddly doodad to carry around with me.

Of note, the Apogee MiC comes with both 30 pin and lightning, so if you're in the market for a portable mic (which I am) it might make sense to pick one up.

I must say, I'm very pleased with my Sonic Port. I use it a few times a week. I only wish it had a MIDI in/out.

Using Audiobuss, I'm using the Line 6 app for a low end tone, and I use Jam up for some punch and to add effects. I look forward to hearing how the BlueBoard works. I hope more then one can be used. I may need 2 of them to do what I'm looking to do.

On a related note:
I've bought EB3 and DM1. EB3 has better hi-hat function, more pads, and I dig the editing, but no way to change songs via MIDI. DM1 has MIDI functions for song select, but only 9 pads/tracks, no hi-hat chokes. I guess I need a drum app that's a bit of both because these won't work for me live.

Do any of the iOS DAWs have a setlist function, or can be used live? I really don't want to take the laptop with Sonar X2.

All of this debate around a 30 pin to lightning adapter / USB to lightning adapter. I've both, the Apple units, short cable, not the dongle. The great thing about the USB to lightning Apple cable is that now with iOS one can connect an iPhone (and iPad of course) to a DAC/ head phone amp which is not designed to connect to iDevice. These two cables are great to have what so ever one use Apogee Jam or not.

Nothing is better then DrumKick for live playing.

That does look like the best for playing drums live. But from what I've read, there's no sequencing or set-list function with DrumKick. At this point, I'd go for a streight-up sequencer, if the app had set-list function that allowed songs to be played, one after another, after a small pause or stop to wait for input.

All this recording stuff is very nice, but I'm having trouble finding any pattern based sequencer great for live use.

I'm loving my iPad bass rig, though. Very nice, indeed.

Guys.....pretty much set on getting a JAM for f'n around on the 'puter and learning tunes. I have a Duet Firewire for recording, but really dont want to be bothered with setting it up every time I need to learn tunes.....Plus, I have little ones at home, so unless its bolted to the walls/floor [or worthless and dont mind if it gets destroyed in the 1st place], it gets put away!! Anything of value [monetary or sentimental] will get destroyed at my house. So I thought the JAM would be the perfect no-fuss/hassle free tool for connecting my bass to and computer together. It will be replacing a Mackie 402-VLZ3 mixer I previously used for silent practice.....only a matter of time before my kids seeked and destroyed.

My 'MAIN' question is......do I need Garageband open [or any other DAW] to get sound going to an audio out (headphone jack, internal speakers, etc)? My 'typical' routine was to run iTunes in the background......then, 3.5mm cable out to small mixer [which bass was plugged in to].....then headphones from the mixer.

This was a nice and easy quiet/silent practice rig.....but remember my little ones??? Every time I needed to practice I had to un-stow and re-stow the mixer, power cables, etc etc before and after my regimen. Not a big deal, but still a PITA. Seems like the APOGEE JAM will alleviate the need for my mixer and necessary cable'age that came with that set-up. I can put the JAM in guitar case and my phones in the closet. DONE!!

However, I am "slightly" concerned about the possible loss of my ability to just plug in and get sound. How do you guys practice with JAM. Mainly talking about learning songs, practicing scales, typical woodshed stuff?
