iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

Really dumb question about Jamup..

The bottom button bar (Amp/FX, Preset, Jam, Sampler, etc.) covers the bottom of the pedal/amp controls, so I can't always read what the controls are for..

For example, the Tron III+ has the words "RANGE" and "DRIVE" covered up.

Am I doing something wrong?

It's like that on mine as well.

I don't think we're missing any functions, just that the description for the switches is below the horizon.

If you check the small icon for the Mutron in the "modulation" selector you can see there aren't any missing switches in the control screen, if that makes sense...

Not the best UI, but it seems to be a work in progress...

Just thought everyone still in market for the Apogee Jam and in need of the Lohhtning adaptor will be happy to hear they are now offering the Jam Lightning which has all 3 cables or $99. Sounds like they did the right thing by new customers but older ones are bing asked to shell out $45 for the lightning cable. Typical corporate BS. Maybe some of you should contact them if you were forced to purchase a cable that new customers are essentially getting free.

And the short answer is "no"

The lightning connector in itself is extremely expensive as it features an advanced identifier chip only available from Apple. Just gave my iOS rig the torture test on the 5S.

For my goofing around time, I used Jamup, Midimorphosis, Sunrizer XS, and Alchemy.

I started using just Jamup, and I gotta say I hear a difference between the sound of the 4S and 5S. Hmm..

Midimorphosis triggered perfectly, no noticeable latency of any kind. A big improvement over the 4S, which had such bad latency that only pad patches were useful. A few of my patches have a slower attack time, so fast playing with those obviously lagged a bit behind my actual bass tone.

The Alchemy synth didn't work as well as Sunrizer, but only because I couldn't set it to run in the background, which definitely makes things run smoother. By running the synth app in the background, I avoid running Audiobus and adding to the processor workload. For recording I'll still use Audiobus.

The 5S has the A6 processor? That's got to be a screaming machine in a mosquito package. My wife has the 5, and it's plenty fast. I'd have one for effects (and use the iPad for sequencing) if not for the extra $30+ a month for the data plan.

The 5S has the A7 chip, plus a second chip that handles strictly motion type chores. I've heard reviews that say it rivals a desktop computer, and I gotta agree. It puts my laptop to shame, and my laptop isn't exactly a junker.

I'm still working on getting my presets back to where I had them, but even as it is how it destroys the 4S I was using.

On a side note, we seem to have lost the ability to rename our banks in Jamup. Hopefully a fix for this is on the way.

Apple is one of the greediest companies. One day their greed will do them again and Jobs isn't around to save them from themselves the next time.

I'm glad Apogee clearly explained the issue.

I've a question about using the AirTurn BT-105... not sure if this has been answered anywhere before but I didn't see it and this thread and the previous incarnations are crazy to follow.

I understand that the AirTurn can be used with any generic NO momentary switch to change presets in JamUp. In that case, would it be possible to rig up a wireless box with 4 buttons that I can attach to my bass strap and press to switch my presets from wherever I am on stage? Everything that I'm seeing seems to suggest it's possible. It'd be nice to be able to change patches anytime without having to run back to wherever my pedalboard or footswitches are. I'll have to order it online since local stores don't carry it (I think!) so I can't try before buying. Hope someone knowledgeable with it can help!

Actually... another question too. Are there any differences between the BT105, BT105 Digit and BT105 Digit II other than that
- The Digit and Digit II have buttons built in
- The Digit II can't use pedal footswitches?
The Digit and Digit II are smaller and seem more suitable for what I have in mind, but I'm assuming that the built-in buttons can be used to control JamUp.

The Airturn BT105 is bluetooth. So you are dealing with some range effectiveness, but yes, it's conceivable. The Airturn product was developed as a hands free page turning device for things like presentations, etc. It just happens that a couple companies have developed the ability to utilize that tech to work with their apps.

It would be nice if companies would cut deals but at the same time we are the ones crazy enough to pay for it regardless of price. We do not need an iPhone but want one and are willing to pay, what ever price they ask of us. Some people, were so willing to have the new 5S, they stood in line for 14 days. So from a business prespective it must be nice to stick what ever price you want on it and people still pay for it. So you really cannot blame them, blame the market/our selves.

Just my 2 cents

Actually, the $5 lightning cable I bought from Walgreens syncs data just fine; while I recognize price differences based on build quality, there's a radical difference in price here, and that doesn't include the $15 charge to ship a 3' cable.

Clearly, Apogee is gouging its existing customers. I didn't see that in their core values on their website. ◔̯◔
