iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

I hear you, brother. And it doesn't help that eyes go south at 40. I have a jewelers visor I wear most of the time I'm doing any closeup work. That way I can pick my magnification.
Back to the topic, though... The Lightning extension shouldn't have any "adaptive port" tech, and the Touch and iPad come with USB to Lightning cords for charging. Unless I'm missing something, and when things appear this easy I feel I am, the only thing that would be easier would be if the strands of the extension and USB cable are color coded the same.
My Dad would say, "less talk, more action". I may get to it tonight, after all. The OCD has kicked in, and it's not always "good" that comes from that.
This is looking very encouraging. But please don't try this at home.
Here's what I've got so far:

I got them initially to extend the range of the Sonic Port cable, and charge the iPad from farther then 3 feet away. As it turns out, these are exactly what I need for the experiment.
The charging cable has 4 conductors. The extension, as you'd guess, has 8.
The USB cable was easy to trace. Red's positive, and Black's negative.
Here's the way the Extension worked out:
8 = Red
7 = Black
6 = Green
5 = White
4 = Orange
3 = Purple
2 = Yellow
1 = Blue
White = Positive
Blue = Negative
The next step is to solder the 5v conductors and see if it blows up. I'll do that after a few cups of coffee. I also want to quadruple check the colors, too.
That's where I'm at. The wires aren't the headphone hair wires at all. The soldering and shrink tubing is the least of my worries.

I'm patiently awaiting your results as well. Not sure if it will do me any good since I'm using an iPhone instead of an iPad, but I'm still watching.
Rip, I'm doing this because I can't go a whole gig with a 5th gen Touch, and I'm guessing that any iPhone will have the same issue and benefit from power while using an external device. I only got a couple of hours out of the Touch, but maybe I'm doing something wrong...
Point is, I'm not doing this for my iPad. Having used all my apps (Audiobus, JU XT, and JU Pro, ect) on both the 4th gen iPad and the 5th gen iPod Touch, the only difference I can see is battery life.
I know I'm close, but I had to set it aside. I may not be able to get to it again until Tomorrow, unless I wake up at 3am, which has been know to happen. It does look very simple, though. It just takes time to solder and shrink tube correctly.
Hi all...
In my haste to remove a bunch of games my kids had on my iPad I accidentally removed GarageBand. After reinstalling it, all the demos I had been working on were gone. I had just backed up the iPad prior to this so I did a Restore. Still no songs in GarageBand. Have my demos disappeared never to be found? If so, what is the point of backing up and using Restore? I only had a few things in the works and I'm sure I can recreate everything but I'm pretty frustrated all the same. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated...

Unfortunately.....from what I understand.....when you delete an app. The device deletes the app and all the related saved content within the app's "zone" of data. So, yes it is gone.
When you... Sync your device and "back-up" the info for the device...(apps, settings, orientation of your icons, the content loaded on the phone like music in iTunes and stuff that you sync from a computer and the way all the data is handled for that date. ...etc.) is saved not the extra additional personal content...(pictures, recordings, works in progress....) the primary things are "backed-up" so if the device fails it can be brought back to the way it was...a bummer about lost work but your device is working again.
A "restore" is the function that puts the device back into one of the saved "back-up" states....that was a working incarnation of the device at an earlier date.
It is up to the user to pull the additional documents and works in progress by the share methods and app content area in iTunes when you sync.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you for the reply! ...I just found a page explaining how to backup projects in GarageBand so I'm set going forward. This is the first time I haven't found the iPad to be completely "user friendly" but I should not have assumed things were being saved when they weren't. Looks like I have some work to redo...
Power Hack Update:

For me, it's not about the soldering. I had to redo my first splice 4 times because I didn't have the shrink tubing in the right order, and even forgot it altogether one time.

Hey guys, I don't know if this has been covered or is just too OT but can anyone recommend a decent drum machine/loop app that has odd meters? I'm mostly interested in 7/8 and a little 5/4.. Thanks
Thanks for sharing - you've saved some of us some time, that's for sure. I know I've had the same thought process but when push comes to shove, I'll play my bass before I'll fiddle with things to be able to play my bass. Now that it's not my primary source of income, my music time is sorely lacking these days.
You're very welcome. My hope is that by sharing the details, someone may have another clue as to how this could be done. I'm sure the guys at IK Multimedia could whip something up. (hint, hint)
It's really too bad, too. There's a few around here that could benefit from this hack. Looks like I'm stuck using my Alesis iO Dock to charge my Touch while I gig.

The Maze (oops. Typo when I uploaded the file) is the real name of the piece. If you check out the other version of this, I've changed it around a bit. I'm hoping to get some time soon to record vocals, which are already written.
I will, of course, be recording them in iOS.
