Anyone tried this ?

Yes. I purchased it. It's pretty cool and simple to use, its just very limited in what it can do. I find it great for inspiration, jamming with beats, and demo creation... But for real drum track creation for me it's a no go. You can't change tempos, and within each tempo offered you're only offer a handful of different beats. The fills for those beats are incredibly limited also, and ijf ya don't like what's there, well...

The app was cheap though, and it is super easy and quick to get a completed drum track together. Sometimes for me being limited in what I can do in certain areas gives me the time I need to get more creative in others. Like writing and bass playing. Despite its short comings I think it was worth the few bucks spent.

Recently I bought JamUp XT Pro; had been using the free version. I also have Amplitube Free and Amplitube Fender Free installed.

When I upgraded to JamUp XT Pro I figured the in-app purchases would transfer; no go. With some help from Positive Grid I worked out a solution.

With IK I am working on a solution to move a few purchases from the Fender Free to the Amplitube Free version.

The 'solution' basically involves paypal transfers and reinstallation/repurchasing of in-app add-ons. Both companies have been really helpful and understanding through this process

Be aware that in-app purchases do not migrate from free to pro versions.

Hope this helps someone in purchasing decisions.

How difficult was communication with Positive Grid? While I hope it's "all good," and this is a bug, if the service you received is an exception, upgrading is a definite deal breaker. If its intentionally that way: bad form.

Why not buy the full program, and do your in-app purchases from within the paid version.

The model that's been established in this group (purchase pedals and amps, but run them in the free version) probably isn't really what the developers had in mind.

I suspect the free version is just intended to be a test drive. If you like it enough to want to start making in-app purchases, why not throw the developer a bone, and buy the app?

Thanks for answering. I use Garageband on my iPad for drums and it seemed to me that this is more advanced .
What's the best drum program in your opinion for iOS?

I can give MY reason for not buying the full app:

I don't think free versions should allow in-app purchases. When I first heard of Jamup, I was already an Amplitube user. I was already into AT for almost $130 total, with interface an app and addons.

I got the free version of Jamup, just to try it out. At that time, it sucked. Pretty bad, actually. I bought the BDDI in-app so I could try it out.

Then they fixed the sound, and I bought another pedal just to try it out.

So now I was into Jamup for $6. No biggie but after looking at the list of stuff you get when you go all in on the Pro version, I realized I had no need for a lot of the guitar stuff. So I bought the bass expansion as an addon to the XT version.

In Jamup it just makes sense. Now I don't have ANY problem buying new gear from them in-app, but I stick to the stuff that I'll actually use. I've got a million little toys in AT that I never even open. No sense doing that again.

Eventually I'll probably go "all-in" with Jamup, just because I'm such a strong supporter of them these days. But for now, I've got all I need and nothing I don't. Every pedal and amp I've got in Jamup, gets used!!

Except that if I understand neumann's comments correctly, you've already put yourself back into the same situation. The longer you go before you go "all-in", the bigger the headache you create for yourself, and for Positive Grid.

Besides, Positive Grid has already given you virtual access to over $10K worth of real world amps and pedals in Jamup, minus the storage and maintenance hassles, for an investment of less than 1%.

How strong a supporter are you, if you won't pay them a few bucks for the app that drives all the cool stuff you're currently doing in IOS? Just sayin'...

Nah, in this situation I feel a little different about the purchase.

I'm such a Positive Grid fanboy at this point, if I ever decide to go "all-in", I'll just plunk down the money.

There's an "essential kit" in-app that brings you up to the level of the paid app.

But yeah, I'm back in the same boat. Just don't mind giving PG a bit more of my money. I've been treated VERY well by Calvin and the guys, so in my eyes they've earned it.

I wouldn't suggest this route to everyone, though.

If you think you'll use the extra stuff, by all means go all in before you get too far.

But if you're like me and just like to pick and choose, Jamup kicks ass either way. It'll just cost more in the long run if you do it the way I have.

For my needs, I'd like to be able to use my iPhone as another sample triggering option.

I do lots of Rush covers with Bass, midi keys and pedals. I'd like to use something trigger some of the random sounds that I have to add at times...like the piano run at the end of Spirit of Radio.

My experience with PG was simple and straight forward. I emailed back and forth with Calvin himself. The IK experience was diverted to Apple and I am working with a rep now.

My confusion came from the belief (false) that moving from free to paid version would transfer in-app purchases. Each program, free, LE, pro, XT whatever is a different program in Apple's eyes and Apple's current structure prohibits that type of upgrade.

I received that info from Calvin. Calvin was great and helpful. Apple was quick to reply and will do a one time "exception" to assist.

If I would have been aware of this I would have bought JamUp XT Pro first and built from there.

As stated earlier I figured since this iOS tech was so new I could "test-drive" numerous apps (Amplitube Free, Fender Free, JamUp, AmpKit) while adding in bits and pieces and when I found what was right for me make the bigger jump to an app and the paid Pro version and still have all the goodies that encouraged me to make that decision.

Just wanted to make you fellow iOS users aware.

I feel kind of bad. 1K took some slagging over this very point, and I jumped on the bandwagon.

There's still a lot of confusion over Apple's policies on this, though. Look at Jamup sharing in-app purchases between iPad and iPhone, vs 1K treating them as separate product streams...

Does anyone else have any latency issues with JamUp or any other ? I've tried different I/O boxes from an iRig to a $100 Apogee JAM and it still has the same behavior. It sounds like I'm playing my bass through a 10-20 ms delay panned to 100% effect. I'm using an iPad 3, shut down all other apps and went into airplane mode to minimize any CPU / memory usage.

So this is an Apple thing not a App Developer thing. It's too bad there isn't more communication for the customer about this. It seems Apple should be throwing us--the paying customer--the bone here; it's not entitlement: we've paid for it. There ought to be a popup notification that simply informs any in-app purchaser that the purchase is not/may not be transferable to other versions, upgrades, etc.

Have you tried restarting the device, closing all other apps?

I'm using a 4S and haven't any latency at all.
