It's all about responsiveness, user experience and software. On those metrics, Apple's got everyone beat.
...and to say you can't do much without rooting is a wee bit ridiculous and wholly untrue. Maybe on older version of Android that was true, but not on GB or anything released thereafter.
Nothing Apple have released since the sad passing of Steve Jobs has been new or groundbreaking, they've just been new versions of existing products.
They need to release something that's actually a completely new product soon, or people will start thinking that they're sitting on their laurels instead of innovating in the same way they always have, and that the loss of Jobs had had a severe negative effect on their ability to innovate.
The company I work for offers employees who need a work phone the choice of Android or iPhone. 80% choose iPhone.
There are several that come to mind. The first is choosing a keyboard. This isn't just aesthetic, I use Smart Keyboard Pro on my Android, and it has a multitude of options, best being auto-text, like BlackBerrys have, where it automatically changes words to predefined words. "u" --> "you" for example. This is completely editable. I can set it to change "Eric" to "Greek God With A Huge Penis" if I want to. Although that would be a lie.I never said that. I said that you can't do all the things that an iphone theoretically can't do, without rooting.
Honest question here: what is it that you can do with an Android based phone that you would be unable to do with an iPhone?
Cracked screen? Sure but that'll happen on any phone...
I don't doubt those that say the Android OS is unstable, but I've personally never had stability issues. Currently, I'm running a modded ROM and kernel, but for the longest time I used a stock GS3 with stock GB. Never had stability issues.
How about using my phone as a simple USB drive? I plug it in, via simple USB, and it shows up as a drive. SO much easier than iTunes, IMO.
Let's talk about removable storage. My phone gladly accepts MicroSD cards. They show up immediately in the File Manager. Simple, and amazingly absent in iDevices.
Funny, I've always considered them less an innovator and more a REFINER of existing product, not one core product they offer was a first to market.
What about Windows Phone? I heard they're pretty good.
They're.......... Ok..........![]()
I have one. I really like it. I've had both Apple and Android. Both have more apps, but I'm not an app queen so that doesn't matter to me. Mine is the Nokia Lumia 900. Fine camera. The only thing Win needs is more app screens. There is only the main page, and then the list of all the apps you have installed. Battery life is very good for this phone.
If u decide to go Win phones, I would wait for the Win 8 phones to come out if u decide to go in that direction.

The options for e-mail clients and calendar clients are much broader for Android. At least they used to be a few years ago. I'm not sure if that's changed.

.Then there are widgets. Widgets make smartphone life easier. Iphones don't allow widgets
How about the replaceable battery? As I said in a previous post, I have a spare battery at home on a dedicated charger. If my battery poops out, it takes all of 30 seconds to swap it out for a full charge. I throw the dead one on the charger, and in a few hours that one is at 100% as well.

I know Flash has gone the way of the dino, but many sites still rely on it. Works just dandy on my phone. Not so much on an iPhone.
When I got my Android, my 3GS got relegated to iPod status in my car. iSimple makes a pretty awesome adapter for iDevices where I can control my iPhone right from the steering wheel, and all data shows up on the nav screen in my car. I never even touch or see the iPhone. Uber snazzy!...but this thread is about IPhones... i got my eye on a 3GS waiting for the price to plummet at people start upgrading... i want to tinker with it![]()
I absolutely agree. There have been similar threads in the past about iPhones, and I've never been negative. For many people, iPhones are perfect for them. I get that and respect it....Look, I hate Apple as a company. I'm the exact opposite of a fanboy. But it pisses me off to hear people acting like anyone who chooses differently from them must be some style obsessed hipster. Both platforms have strengths and weaknesses. Choose the one that suits you best, and stop acting like choosing a different phone than you is a moral failure.
The ease of popping out the card and having gigs upon gigs of data from your phone ready to transfer to any other device that accepts SD is the benefit, not the overall storage capacity. At least, for me that's the benefit....I always thought this was a huge advantage. But at this point I find it difficult to imagine using more than the 32 or 64g built in on an iphone. If you want to buy a 100+gig microsd and need that much storage I admit it's an advantage. I'm not sure how many folks would need that, and I do not personally...
