I'm with you on this philosophy. Very stoked for the Xerograph Deluxe to arrive!

I got mine last week, and it is the schiz!

Edit: and I feel like a freaking 1 percenter (which I am totally not) cause I also recently got a Dubterrograph for my big board (that’s the 20 knob IE pedal).

I would definitely be open to a Xerograph Ultra Deluxe with full Envelope controls and an LFO section. I know it wouldn't be for everyone but I think many of us would love to get our hands on something like that.

Making a filter with ADSR wouldn't be difficult or require collaborating with another builder, but I'm pretty stubborn about sticking to WYSIWYG interfaces. So the kind of things where one knob is controlling 5 different parameters, and the knob position doesn't tell you where things are set, isn't my jam. Over the years I've designed several versions of a monster filter, with more envelope control, an LFO that can either be tap-tempo, pitch-tracking, or tap-tempo-by-the-notes-you-play, and other stuff, but when things get that much more complex, feature creep and analysis paralysis always keep me from settling on what to keep and what to lose.

A decent percentage of people still find the 6 knob XD complicated to use... I can only imagine how a 20 knob version would go over!

I think the A/D control on the FMeron is a great, simple envelope.

Got my fancy, new Xero Deluxe and it's definitely an upgrade all around over my older (and completely awesome) unit. Much more range, the envelope on/off, adjustment for expression, and the amazing new look....I think I'm in love!

I'd take a box w 20 knobs. Mix it up, have fun...keep the guts to just 6 controls...just give me the 20 knobs w no manual and see what I think each control is. I can see the write up already "It's a LOT of knobs...and they are all very interactive making this one crazy beast to tame and not for the weak of heart."

Be sure to throw in a switch or two and definitely label the controls w weird symbols. I swear, I have some pedals that I am pretty sure are doing this anyway.

I’ve been doing more fine tuning of the Dubterrograph. I’m feeding the super 300 into the XD side and a clean signal into the synth side. It really is a remarkable little synth engine. Here are my current synth settings…

After reading the last few pages of this thread - and after playing with both types of pedals - I totally agree - i like pedals with dedicated controls... but I play in a band that doesn't go thru a setlist where i have to have different sounds for each song... and I like playing with the pedals real-time as well.

I bought the Source Audio Ultrawave pedal a month or two back which is the antithesis of dedicated control pedal. There are 4 controls on the pedal which can be assigned to a parameter, but to change patches or do almost anything you have to have a computer hooked to it, and to change patches without a computer you need a Neuro Hub + a MIDI controller. The pedal sounds great - you can get some great synth sounds as well as multiband distortion - but without a MIDI setup (or perm attached iOS or computer) its a 1 sound pedal thats not really configurable.

I think some in folks setup (looking at you @BurningSkies ) having everything setup with MIDI patches is a great way to go, and if you play in a band that needs it that you almost have to do it that way, so in no way am i calling them out, but i'm slowly realizing that i like pedals you don't have to hook computers up to to figure out a patch - i also like looking at a pedal and knowing what its going to sound like given where the knobs are.

It also is probably why i love IE pedals so much, that, the fact that Taylor never does a pedal that everyone else does, and that most of his pedals have a expression pedal input as well.

I like 'em both ways. My live board DOES use a lot of MIDI so I can just not have to think about anything past hitting the patch I need and it allows me to have a bunch of different colors so it doesn't feel like I'm using the same envelope filter sound for every song I need filter for, or the same distortion/OD or whatever for a bunch of songs. Though I obviously haven't given up on 'traditional' interface pedals as well. Eventually I'll end up with a UltraWave too... I have an AfterShock and I don't love that you have to program it and save patches on the Hub rather than just doing it on the pedal. I'd much prefer to use the hub at just that, not a programming controller too.

This week I got serious about buying a Dubterranea but have learned they are way more scarce on the market than I expected. I understand he's had issues and delays getting parts for building new pedals, which is a drag. Can anyone give me a clearer idea of how hard it will be to buy one?

1. How often does the builder release new runs and how many units are usually included?
2. Do they sell out immediately?
3. It feels like if one goes up for sale used, it'll be gone minutes after it's posted. Has that been true?
4. How did you buy yours?

I’ve bought two through the web store (plus another through the classifieds). I highly recommend signing up for the email restock notification, as that’s how I got mine (XD, Polytope). I’m not sure on how fast they sell as I’ve had ample time to checkout after being notified, but they will. Not sure if the demand has significantly grown (most likely has) but when I originally purchased my XD, it had been posted on the website for a couple of days before I found out about it. Also I’ve noticed that email notifications seem, for me at least, to go up pretty late EST.

Ok...need some advice here.

Had a gig yesterday where I brought out my XD to use on a couple of tunes. Before leaving, I set it the way I wanted it using the bass I'd use on the gig, but not the amp I would be using.

I get to the gig and set everything up and with the settings I was using at home was getting some high pitched feedback from my amp when I turned the pedal on, and this was happening even without playing.

I made further adjustments to the pedal, and was able to make the feedback go away but than the Envelope Generator sound I wanted went away. Ended up not using the pedal on the gig.

Bass was an Alembic series 1, amp was a Mesa TT800 which was really the first time I used it on the gig.

Could my issues have been caused by there just being too much gain on the amp?

Post a pic of your settings. My first guess would be high resonance on 4-pole setting.

Second guess would be suspect electric at the venue and the XD didn’t like that.

I am/was a guitar player for 12 years, who never bought any single effect pedal.
Now here I am 2 years after picking a Bass and spending money on effects (...thank you John Davis )
My first ampless synth-bass bedroom-setup is complete! ...tbh, we know, it's never complete.
I'm deeply amazed by the sounds you can get with the XD!
Such nice and clear sweeps! My new quest is, to get a Nimbus! Taylor rulz!
