The XD manual says that the Moog EP-3 is the best expression pedal to use. Is this true in people's experience? Any better ones out there? Size doesn't matter too much for me, I just want the best sounding sweep.

I’ve used both the EP-3 and the DVP4 (current). Both work extremely well. The external sweep adjustment knob on the side of the EP-3 is very useful and nice to have as well.

Found this on my desk today… FYI, I may be selling my Dubterrograph as I’m not using the DubT side and due to pedal board real estate issues.

quick questions about XD

Digital, right?
Also, does the filter actually close? If not, how low does it go?

Thanks

It goes low enough that if you are playing up to stage volume and you care about your speakers you should be careful, especially in the 'down' mode. I run a HPF at the end of my board particularly because of this.

Wow the XD is by far the best filter for synth tones out there. I do wish there were controls for attack/decay instead of a slow/fast toggle for the envelope filter section, but I feel like that would start to make the small face of the pedal pretty cluttered.
Imagine if Taylor did a collaboration with Chase Bliss and was able to include ADSR on the pedal!

I found the best feature of that pedal was the ability to sweep the filter with an expression pedal.. It has a HUGE range doing it that way.
Those slow filtered bass sweeps from Muse or dance/house music can be done on the fly and it sounds so good.

I did this on a recording years ago.

Making a filter with ADSR wouldn't be difficult or require collaborating with another builder, but I'm pretty stubborn about sticking to WYSIWYG interfaces. So the kind of things where one knob is controlling 5 different parameters, and the knob position doesn't tell you where things are set, isn't my jam. Over the years I've designed several versions of a monster filter, with more envelope control, an LFO that can either be tap-tempo, pitch-tracking, or tap-tempo-by-the-notes-you-play, and other stuff, but when things get that much more complex, feature creep and analysis paralysis always keep me from settling on what to keep and what to lose.

A decent percentage of people still find the 6 knob XD complicated to use... I can only imagine how a 20 knob version would go over!

I'll be happy to be a test dummy. ;) Seriously though, thanks for jumping in. I understand favoring the WYSIWYG interfaces and especially more if on-the-fly adjustments are required. And I have no qualms against the XD, I recommend it to everybody especially after doing more A/B'ing over time. My favorite!

I'm with you on this philosophy. Very stoked for the Xerograph Deluxe to arrive!
