Iron Ether Subterranea

Time to experiment!

Sub and rehoused oxide now in action. Will be interesting to see what the compressor will do to the sub :)

Thanks!
I think I will go the route Taylor suggested...

Yes, the strangle switch had to be removed and wires attached so that it could go above the circuit board.

Taylor said I should sell mine and he would a top mounted version for me, which would have been the better thing to do. However, it would have been too hard to get a good price for it in Japan and mailing fees excludes me from the TB classifieds.

Really glad it is top mounted though now. Has a little extra awesome to it. Serious it sounds better now it is top mounted :D

If anyone wants to hear the SubT used in a live setting, check out this set from my band from Friday.

You can hear liberal IE usage in most of the songs. Particularly Persistence, Future Funk, Easy Peasy, Sky Pirates (didn't get this one quite right), Prime Time (bass solo starts at 5:30 and the SubT>XeroD>Nimbus kicks in about halfway through the solo), and RAD.

We opened for George Porter Jr. and he actually gave me a tiny compliment on my playing. I peed...

*EDIT* Listening with headphones or a sub-woofer will greatly enhance the bassious experience!

Really really cool man. For me this is further reason to reinvest in a subT when I get some more cash.

Great sound and great playing Sterling.

I’m on the fence about the Sub. How bad is that noise bleed through? I didn't hear any noise in any of the sound sample out there.

Thanks, guys!!!

The bleed through is not very noticeable when using the synth voices. It is also not very noticeable when using the soloed octave voice within a band mix. The only time it really bothers me is when using headphones. No worries though, Taylor and gang are working on a fix!

I used it with my cover band last night. I only used it as a traditional octaver, no synth voices at all. My findings are, it is very fat and the tracking is immediate. It feels better than my OC2 (which I am notoriously in love with). I did not hear the bleed through at all and my bandmates said it totally killed the OC2. I love that not only does it not have the volume drop out of the OC2, but it has a ton of gain to ensure mix bludgeoning!

+1. In a band mix the SubT slays the OC-2 both as a soloed octave down and blended with the clean as a traditional octaver. Better tracking, fewer artifacts, more gain on tap and lots more sounds thanks to the filter. And that's saying something as I flat out love the OC-2 and have A/B'd it with pretty much every other octaver and always come back to the Boss.

The bleed through is frustrating at home and pretty bad through headphones but would be masked in live use. If Taylor does find a way to eliminate or reduce the noise the Subterranea would be perfect IMO.

Lovely playing and clips, mate! Your samples are the reason why I'm tempted by the Subterranea.

I think I'll pick one up when/if they fix the bleed through.

Just realized that in my last post I forgot to tell you how much I dig your playing and your band's sound.

Great stuff Marc!

Thanks, I knew you guys would get a kick out of listening to this. I really appreciate y'all listening and commenting.

I definitely feel like the Subterranea has completed my quest for the ultimate synth bass guitar tone. I love that my IE board sounds/tracks better than any all in one synth I've tried and it has way more control than your average synth pedal.

I also have no doubt that the IE crew are working diligently on fixing the bleed issue. I agree with Jared that once that is addressed, this pedal is no short of perfect.

I also dig your band's stuff as well! Really tight and funky stuff :)

If the Subterranea can do a totally clean octave then I'll be all over it. I love synth for recording and messing around but none of my current gigs call for it. If it could do the octave thing well I'd be able to use that for the live work and the synth side for home recording :D

I don't need an MXR BOD anymore. This kills.
