Iron Ether Subterranea

Ok, I had a minute to put together a couple of demos. I spent all day working in the studio and then came home and threw together some quick and dirty jams. Please excuse the lack of editing and general wankery. I was really trying to push the tracking to it's limits. This thing tracks amazingly as you will hear. For the record, my pedal is not noisy at all. I have experienced what others were talking about as far as the octave voice goes, but I actually like the way it sounds.

I recorded these through and Optifet comp to limit and the DI of my DB750. I didn't add any extra processing whatsoever. Here goes, nice and dirty.

Did I miss the posts where you guys are sharing real sound clips of this pedal?

There ya go!!!

Got mine :hyper:

First impression after a couple of hours jaming on a fender jag :

Octave : I got mine to track down to low E ( tried lots of settings on the bass and differen playing styles )
the filter makes it more versatile than my oc-2 clone

Octo synth : good tracking here too , sounds a bit like a blue Box

Uni synth : I think I hear what MSUsousaphone described : there is a kind of "warble" the first milliseconds when I start playing no matter how hard/soft I hit the string . Not noticeable when I mix the voices.

Cant wait to gig this thing - This knocks the oc-2 clone and the syb-3 off my Board and my quest for synthfuzz is over !!!

Still loving this thing. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE it with my Oxide. Turn the Morph knob left until you hear the gate close. SO GOOOOOOD!!!! I wish I still had my TAFM and its powerful gate. I've been doing some experiments before and after dirt. IMO it sounds better in the beginning of the chain but I do like some of the tones I get with my B7K and The Elements before it. The Oxide NEEDS to be after the Sub. Lots of tweaking to do!

Exactly what I was thinking. :hyper:

I had Taylor send me a box so that I could convert my oxide into a top mount along with my Sub. Yesterday I got around to the conversion and then fired them up together. What a great pair!

Gotta love the top mounted jacks, just makes so much more sense!!!!

It's crazy how well all Iron Ether pedals work together. I wish i could hire someone to mess with knobs while I play. I hooked up my all IE board to my friends electric drumkit and while he was playing I was going crazy with the knobs. RIDICULOUSNESS!!!! :bassist:

I'm going to give the Subterranea a try with the Megalith tomorrow, I expect loads of awesome to be had.

I've had my SubT for a few days now.

The noise bleedthrough is about the only thing keeping me from absolutely loving it.

The octave down cops an OC-2's soloed octave perfectly and the filter adds additional texture if you want. Very cool. Get that classic hollow OC-2 sound or just a bit more grit to make it more present in a mix. Also, plenty of gain on tap so you can hit unity gain or beyond, whereas the Boss always had a bit of a volume drop when soloing the -1 octave.

It tracks better than an OC-2 which is saying something since the Boss tracks better than the MXR BOD and EBS Octabass. The MXR actually glitches a slight bit less on low notes (low A on the E string and below) but the Boss is less congested and with fewer artifacts than the MXR when playing runs. But the IE is significantly better in each way.

The synth voices are very cool on their own but IMO they shine most of all when paired with the Xerograph. With the Xero set to downsweep and the attack set to slow I've nailed the synth sounds from Radiohead's "All I Need" and "Climbing the Walls" both sounds I've tried to replicate for a long time now.

Personally I wish each voice had a bit LESS gain on tap to make precise adjustments easier and the bleedthrough from the unison synth is frustrating, but I think both are fixable and then I'd have ZERO complaints about the Subterranea. I wanted a next generation/highly souped up OC-2 and it is that and MUCH more.

Do you have to desolder some parts to put the oxide in the top mount enclosure?

Yes, the strangle switch had to be removed and wires attached so that it could go above the circuit board.

Taylor said I should sell mine and he would a top mounted version for me, which would have been the better thing to do. However, it would have been too hard to get a good price for it in Japan and mailing fees excludes me from the TB classifieds.

Really glad it is top mounted though now. Has a little extra awesome to it. Serious it sounds better now it is top mounted :D
