lol. so, i mean, i know it's gonna be RrrrARRRR, so i had no qualms about ording the SubTah. but i don't love octavers. i think the M9's can sound really close to the Aggie Octo, which has always been my favorite. i've been moist about the unison synth and the different waveforms.

but damnit Sterlz. you got me all jiggly and impatient.

butthead.

EDIT:
the following is an analysis of the 'noise issue' that has been mentioned. I must say that I ABSOLUTELY am keeping, do love, and will recommend this pedal. I hope that the following post will be taken in context: i am EXPLAINING my findings on a mentioned issue, but I absolutely, in NO way, find this noise to make the pedal unusable of even really inconvenient compared to alot of pedals. This Subterranea is a KNOCKOUT pedal, and i am so happy that someone finally made a usable FAT DEEP synth pedal. I prefer it to the mothership, and GREATLY prefer it to the BMS.
I only aim to inform those who have the pedal and are perplexed by the noise, to answer questions of future buyers, and perhaps to assist Taylor in any way possible; he is a cool guy and IE makes dynamite stuff [ all of which i will be buying after this pedal ]

on with the info:
--------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so alot of people have mentioned the noise issue.
I got mine today, and i have spent the last couple of hours 'playing' with the noise.
First let me say that i absolutely LOVE this pedal. I have already gotten pretty close to a consistent technique to make it sound great all the time, which is to say it tracks quite well. QUITE well.

ok so the noise; let me firstly state that
a) there IS some noise while 'not playing' and while playing, though i am honestly not worried about the latter, since this thing puts out so much sound the noise is immediately negligible, especially in a band.

b) the noise is definitely caused by input signal, or perhaps by its 'reading' process.

I experimented with how to stop the noise;
a) with the bass's signal all the way 'up' i could get the noise to stop by muting the strings with my hand, and holding VERY still. At first i thought it stopped when i muted the strings and touched the body of the pedal, but I am most certain at this point that it was just my stillness and not some grounding-thing
b) by cutting the lowend of my bass i could make the noise go away faster; the low rumble was harder to handmute, causing noise.
c)by turning my bass's signal all the way down, i got NO noise from the pedal
d)by putting an always-hummy pedal in front of it, i had CONSTANT noise from the SubT.

in conclusion, regarding the [user] cause of the noise, it absolutely has something to do with the 'reading' process. electronically, I could not begin to guess.

Also, it is notable that the noise is present even with all knobs on the SubT all the way 'down'. If you play your bass into the pedal with all of the Pedal's knobs 'down' you will hear a TEENYTINY distorted signal of your bass.

Again with no signal going into it, there is no noise.
A good gate (any suggestions, people?) would in my opinion fix the issue, though I SERIOUSLY do not find it an issue, and I rehearsed with it right out of the box in a full live-sound setting.
The noise does NOT increase with either the Input signal increasing or any of the pedal's own knobs' increasing .

If you have a hummy signal, or hummy pedals before the SubT, you will have noise. Bypass it until needed if it is a big problem.

If there is a mod in the future to fix it, cool. If there is not, you will NOT find my Subterranea in the classifieds, even though I have been a fickle pedal seller in the past (my poor opti-FET :( )

Thanks for your time
-Ed

PS: as a straight octaver, this thing kicks the OC2's ass due to tracking, and loudness/ mix presence. And dont get me started on the MXR...

a while back I started comparing the demo sounds to the synthmod OC-2 and was always curious about the noise issues you get from the Modded OC-2 would be handled. Statements a, c and d are exactly the same as I noticed with the modded OC-2 so I am not shocked by this. However, the Subterranea is far quieter than a modded OC-2, Taylor has actually done a really good job at getting control over a lot of the glichy sounds that are produced. Furthermore, the Subterranea is far superior to the limited sounds generated by a modded OC-2.

My conclusion has been:
- the Subterranea is a definite keeper, fatter than most synths and a really good octave.
- the noises that are generated can be controlled by muting without scratching along the strings.
- don't mod your OC-2, just get the real thing, Subterranea!

The above two posts did NOTHING to help me!!!!!

I waited a week or two after the intro to order mine, as I had lack of funds.................I must wait it out like a junkie for his phone to ring to enjoy this obviously SUPER AWESOMENESS in pedal form

I SHOULD use my hard earned money on superfluous crap like food and bills but I will definitely be ordering this puppy.

Interesting.... do you think a HPF placed before it could help with tracking?

If anyone wants to hear the SubT used in a live setting, check out this set from my band from Friday.

You can hear liberal IE usage in most of the songs. Particularly Persistence, Future Funk, Easy Peasy, Sky Pirates (didn't get this one quite right), Prime Time (bass solo starts at 5:30 and the SubT>XeroD>Nimbus kicks in about halfway through the solo), and RAD.

We opened for George Porter Jr. and he actually gave me a tiny compliment on my playing. I peed...

*EDIT* Listening with headphones or a sub-woofer will greatly enhance the bassious experience!

OK, listening to this really didn't help. Love the sound and your playing is superb. The sounds from the SubT (as well as the other IE peds) are awesome. I will DEFINITELY be ordering one as soon as funds hit my account! :bassist:

If I have had any part in making you moist and jiggly, then my job is done here...

Thanks, Basehead!!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

I initally though the same thing about the noise being related to the tracking process, IDK. But it is tied to the UniSynth, you change the wave there and the nosie changes a bit. Try it with everything turned off, pay your bass and switch waves.

I just sold mine, I was a bit underwhelmed by it initially. It is a solid pedal, I ran it through filters and modulation, could get good results but ultimately decided that new a Synth (actual synth not pedal) was a more pressing gear want. I ultimately didn't explore the pedal and had my heart set on the new synth before the SubT arrived.
I wish Taylor would chime in and set the noise issue straight. Is it unavoidable in the pedal design or is it something that can be fixed? If so, I would buy one again in a heartbeat.

Hey guys, we are working on a solution to the noise issue and will announce when it's ready and how to get yours modded. The fix will be free of course and we'll even cover return shipping.

Another thing I want to mention is that if you ever have a problem with something, contact me and I'll fix it. If you don't like your IE pedal, you can return it. I don't mean you shouldn't also express your feelings on the forum, of course, but I don't necessarily get a chance to check all the forums all the time so I can do customer service better through email than here. I hate the idea of anybody being disappointed with their pedal and feeling I did not take care of them when I didn't have a chance to.

Awesome as always Taylor.

I've not owned an Iron Ether product but this right here is how you go about customer service :bassist:

I'll definitely pick this pedal up when the fix is out and this response from Taylor makes me want one more!
