Iron Ether Subterranea

Yes, only using the octave down voice. It is not something I do often, but it does sound cool. Very similar to the OctoSynth voice, but a slightly different flavor.

That makes more sense. I've never understood people who say they put the OC-2 in front of a synth, but if you're doing it this way for tone reasons it is at least reasonable.

Yes.

The last I had heard Taylor thought he was on the road to a fix. I'm certainly not in a position to say whether that particular approach ended up being fruitful and certainly not able to say when or if it would be implemented, but he's certainly working on it.

Thanks Jared. I know he's working it. It will be interesting to hear what he discovers. I placed an order in July, but am not being impatient. He makes such cool pedals, its worth the wait.

This is the response he gave me for the nimbus, polytope and the xerograph.

" Each of those three pedals has a current draw of 80mA. They should work just fine daisy chained together on a PP2 outlet. I have not heard any comments about power supply noise."

The SubT sounds REALLY good with a big 'squashing' via compressor and i had a thought...

Wouldnt it be awesomely useful if I.E. (or someone, but I.E. would get it right within this context!) had a synthy-specific compressor-esque pedal.

It could have 2 comp elements even;
one for a variable 'squashing' compression,
and perhaps one that does 'envelope shaping' compression

hell while we're at it, what if it had a side chain such that:
envelope shaping -> Xero -> squashing to smooth the peaks

kind of just brainstorming here, but point being, the way I.E. has taken things like reverb and modulation and expanded them in a unique synthy way, I think that I.E. would NAIL a synth oriented compressor

+(a lot of)1's

neh. 's like comparing apples and haddock flavored penguins.

effects pedals that make your bass make noises it can't plugged straight in = goooooood.

something that you can mimic with different playing styles like a comp = thhhhppbbbbbbt.

at least to me. never clicked with comps. seem SILLY.

But you cant get squashed fuzz or subT with fingers...

I meant to write more in my last post...

sure a lot of people think compressors give this magic natural tone and a lot of people think you can fix bad technique with it.. . but let's take this conversation beyond bad compressors, bad players and bad one liners about gear.
as a first porn in my argument I would note that there are so many different types of compression they could use name to describe all of them, just as there are different kinds of modulation. using compressors to tame dynamics because you haven't tayght yourself how is one thing, but taking an aggressive open harmonic synth signal, and making it into something smoothgives the subT and fuzzes a whole new dimension! and a good squashing compressor can make things like peaking filters retain bubbly or dramatic sweeps without the house sound 'woofing out' for example..

simply stated, I implore you to reconsider... I know nobody here knows me on a personal level at all, but I am a hyper critical no b******* sound-first kind of guy, and I went from trying to use compressors for magic tone, to using them toget a new dimension in a certain amount of extra usability out of my whole setup and my pedals especially. I have a date this week in my buddys studio and I'm planning on doing a bunch of videos for the subterranea with and without other pedals and a band.. Youll see.. Youll all see ;)

plus the apples and.. penguins work in my favor..
the underlying point.was that iron ether makes new and novel usres out of classic ideas... The polytope is certainly a penguin to most mods apple

Ok, I get what you're saying. I know for, part of the reason I don't like or use compression is because I don't understand it. I mean, I know what it's for but I've only used a unit or two in small increments. So I really don't know what I'm talking about when compression is involved. I just didn't like what they did for my sound in the past. Dodo, please let us know when you post those vids, I'd really like to see what you come up with, thanks.

neh. **** compressors.

no offense to anybody that loves them, i just never saw the point and i've had people that love them go into great detail. just any area of effects that never interested me.

post recording compression to make things fit together nicely? yeppers please as long as it's a sound engineer that knows what the hell he's doing.

but on a board? nopers. nope nope nope nope NOPE.

BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE THEM. MAKES ME RIGHT AND EVERYBODY ELSE WRONG. BWAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHHH.

...... or something.
