The first time i saw the video (w/o subtitles) I was dumbfounded. What in the oooo???!! I sincerely hope the guy is somehow getting some money from his Internet meme fame.

I played a 4001 from around '73 into the early '90s. Loved the sound, the speed, the stereo output (Much more control that way, into a stereo preamp).

What I didn't like is that it wouldn't take the beating that other basses can. Specifically for me, the strings were too close to the edge of the neck. I switched to a MusicMan Sterling, which I can play much harder than the Ric, and I like the sound better anyway.

I call it "The Flashing Woman". It's a young woman (21 y/o, not a teen) wearing gloves that have steel plates on them and arm bands who is flashing. My friend, who, for the time being, we will call Mrs.Mel Mel( her nick name is Mel Mel) started randomly flashing me after we shared two glasses of wine. I guess she didn't have the amount of tolerance for wine she thought she had. I always take a picture with my digital camera for reference, but I destroyed this particular picture on accident less than a week after taking it. And for all you perverts wondering if I took advantage of her while she was drunk, the answer is no. I would never do that. That's one of the worst things you can do to some one. Some people have no respect for women and that's one of the biggest problems with the world today.

This sounds like a story Mikael Akerfeldt or Peter Gabriel would tell before a song. Best trainwreck thread of the year.

I own five Rickenbacker basses and I've never had any problems with the pickups (which sound excellent), pots, finishes, truss rods, bridges, or any other aspects of my basses. That said, it's true that the best thing you can do is to simply play one and see for yourself. I think you'll be impressed. Consider this as well: Rickenbacker does not exploit Third World labor in the making of their instruments, and their guitars are always made from sustainable, farm grown woods. An ethical company in this day and age is a bit of a rarity.
