Is it bad to date the lead singer ???

Before marrying my wife of almost 42 years, I confess I found it difficult NOT to date women I was attracted to in the string quartets and cover bands I was in. Making music is kind of a personal thing, and you're sharing that. When you click with another musician, that's hard to deny.

If you're looking for lasting love/life-long relationship, what better place to look? If you're looking for more short-term carnal satiation... there's no good place.

Its only 2 months.
But apart from what the band thinks, I'd go with it until it becomes an issue.
Then, you need to own it.
Who knows, a good few years on it could become the best thing you ever did ...which is why the band dont really have a say. That's not to say they'll agree.

I was in a band where the lead vocalist (lady) and drummer (dude) were a couple. Somehow they made it work, but they probably had to work twice as hard to make it work. They often had to pretend they were cousins or something, especially at shows where fans would approach the singer and she had to pretend to be unattached otherwise it might turn off fans. Maintaining stage image vs real image. I believe they were a couple before even starting the band. So that might have an effect on dynamics as well.

And, as others have said, couple drama sometimes snakes its way into the band and it becomes family drama like when the parents' fighting affects the kids like secondhand smoke.

There is also the risk of a power imbalance within the band when two members of said band are dating.

Some say it's sorta like when you date someone from the same workplace. Like, what if something goes amiss in the relationship? You still gotta work your day job with them every day.

But on the other hand, there all sorts of risks when dating anyone. You might love your partner but can't stand their friends. There might be disapproving family members trying to sabotage things because they don't approve of your life choice.

No matter what, relationships are hard work. Some relationship dynamics are more complicated than others.

Ancient wisdom that has never failed me, and I've seen it proven more than once:

'Don't s**t where you eat.'

It's always a bad idea, because 99.7% of the time, you're going to later be still working with them, or even better watch them move on with somebody else in the band. That introduces some amazing personal interaction dynamics . . .

I see no problem at this point with you dating your bandmate.

I’ve learned that what’s happened in the past, or in other situations, isn’t going to be what will inevitably happen in the current situation. And I’ve seen far more harm than good done by preemptive strikes and snap decisions to “get ahead of the problem.”
