Seems like people are arguing nothing here.
That's because we've hit the magical point in every TB thread in which no one is actually responding to any of the original positions or arguments anymore ...

Look on the bright side - at least nobody has tried the "if you can't find subs it's probably because your gigs pay crappy and no sub wants them" line of reasoning. Tbh I was tempted to pull it out, but then I remembered that I've even managed to sub out a couple of free gigs, so...
I think we need a corollary to Godwin's Law: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a posted comment having nothing to do with the original topic approaches 1.
Well, it's 4:30, I just got done playing a bunch of old Dale Watson songs, and I have a very nice Blake's turkey pie about to go into the oven . . .
1!
Let's see. When the band was playing 6 nights a week, I didn't miss a gig. Casuals? Didn't miss a gig. I go to work when I'd rather not, because I made a commitment to be there. I don't cheat on my wife, because I made a commitment. If I'm not there, the people who know me know there's a real good reason.

TL : DR - Thousands of people could die if you miss a gig or don't know how to play Freebird.
OP, I think you need to take a weekend off dude. You seem pretty wound up.
I just don't understand why there is room for the occasional last-minute day off in every single business on the planet except music.
You are making the mistake of assuming that gigs are the only "business days" for musicians. You are discounting all the hours of practice - individual or in ensemble settings - among other things.
Uh..... no, I am not. Where did you get that? I mainly focused on gigs because those are the days that really piss people off if someone misses. Practices, not so much.
(But as I have stated many times before, I think bar/cover/wedding/corporate bands practice way too much. But that's a can of worms I can open another day.)

Nobody is saying there's any problem if a sub can be had. Or did I miss something. I don't think anyone is saying anything even if someone can't do a gig. People get pissed when someone cancels a gig and leaves the band hanging. And they should.
Am I missing something? What's the argument here?
I guess that's another disagreement hehe. I think many bar/cover/wedding/corporate bands don't practice enough. When I go see music, I want to be blown away. I want to be rocked. I want goose bumps. I want a life changing experience. I most often get a lukewarm, ho hum, it's good enough performance. If the musician's don't care, why would anyone else.
