Is It Really Too Much to Ask?

Excuse my pointedness. If there was "demand" fender would do it. In Fender's eyes, a few dozen people who care that much about color or the presence of a j pick up is not "demand." For Fender, "demand" is Guitar Center/Sam Ash/Sweetwater will order hundreds of them. Fender tried selling those, what we're they called? Pawn shop series? Where they mixed and matched between series. Tele necks on Strat bodies, Bigsby tailpiece on Teles, etc. It lasted about as long at the Black Top series. For whatever dull, traditionalist reasons or marketplace forces, Fender believes that what works is that the P bass is defined partially by it's 1.73 neck and Jazzes by the 1.5. FWIW, I'm with you. I like the sound of a p-bass but like a 1.5 neck but my preference/need for shorter scale basses makes it moot. My peeve is that fender keeps giving up on 32 inch scale which for me is perfect.

I am the opposite. I made a Jazz with a P neck. I effin LOVE it. Made it from quality parts. $35 pro setup. Mighty Mite neck, which are fantastic.

And what is ist that is stopping you from having one built to spec?

Honestly absolutely nothing...however that said I can piece one together for far less than a "Custom build"....plus the whole point of this thread is that there should be a production "P" bass with a Jazz neck available to buy instead of having to custom order one, or piece it together myself

Dear Fender,

I would like a 3 color burst "P" (without a damn J pick-up coming along for the ride) Bass - with a Jazz Neck!!

Is that really too much to ask?

This...but with a "Jazz" width nut (Bound and Blocked would be nice)

Seriously Every Fender I own has been modified by me because they don't make what I want....I have never been able to buy an "off the shelf" Fender that I didn't have to modify
Ahh! A P-bass with the neck of a Jazz Bass...sounds like heaven to me! The only thing that has kept me from purchasing a P-Bass was that darn thick and wide neck. Actually played my Grandson's Squier P-bass and its neck was better than any normal P-bass I've played.

Not to infuriate you but just to point out different strokes for different folks. I'd love to have a P-bass with a Jazz neck, but I'd have to insist that the neck be the same 60's shallow C-shape with 7.25" radius like my current Jazz ('82 MIA). That way it would have the same paint scheme and neck feel that my '65 Jazz did but with a P-bass sound.

Dear Fender:I want a six stringed neck through headless fanned fret bass made of cocobola and walnut.
With a pale moon ebony fingerboard!
And I want to buy it off the store wall!

LOL I believe that what I'm asking isn't anywhere near as ludicrous as this...after all the fekking parts are laying around the factory already....no real effort really to bolt them together

OP, I'm with you. A PBass with a 1.5" nut would be perfect for me. It seems to me that this is a pretty popular mod that people do and would have decent sales. The key is to not give a stupid name like Pawn Shop series. Why would I want that? I have two basses that have the J pup in the bridge and I've never used that pup on a gig. Just can't find a sound I like out of it.

The high school band at the school where I work has a '78 (I think) precision with the A neck (1.5" nut) and it is a joy to play! Sure wish I could buy something like that off the rack these days.

I'm with you, @Snakeman1066!

I did it myself, squire body, peavey neck. But those new players are so nice, I've been gassing. I guess it's off to the STRAToshpere

I don't even care about the color/ trim. Just want that pickup/neck combo!

All of my p basses have j necks. You can do it your slef, that's why they have bolt-on necks. I mean when you get one from them all they do is swap the necks in the factory anyway no rocket science there really.

If Fender won't make what you want, then look beyond Fender.

Doesn't make a short scale bass that is anywhere near what I wanted, so I had one made. It ended up costing somewhere between what of an American Pro and American Elite lists for. Couldn't be happier with it.
