Is It Really Too Much to Ask?

So, OP, you’re particular. But, it’s not that difficult to buy the parts you need and assemble it yourself. My Jazz has a P neck - even more unusual than the other way ‘round, but that’s what fits my hands. So I put mine together.

Fender makes what they think people want. They don’t make everyone’s dream bass; some of us have to do a little work ourselves.

People have been putting jazz necks on P basses since 1961...so one would think (since there are pro players who do this as well) that in almost 60 years time somebody at Fender would go hey why don't we make this a standard option...

I thought modding and swapping parts was part of the fun. Youre actually the first P player I’ve heard say they preferred a J neck. 99% of P players swear by those Louisville Slugger necks.

It is part of the fun...don't get me wrong...however I'm getting on in years and it would be nice to not have to hunt down the parts, haggle, wait, and have to assemble them....in contrast to walking into and out of a store with what you want...for once

AND....that is exactly the point of this thread...it shouldn't have to be a dream bass...they make all the necessary parts already across just about every single one of their product lines...somewhere in there is room for this to be a standard option

example: enough people slapped a Badass bridge on Fender basses...that eventually it is now standard equipment on some of their offerings (at Least heir version of it)....so why not a Jazz necks on a P bass?

I would buy one (again). Seems like the sound of a bass and the feel of a bass both should be optional. Yep, you can get your preferred specs from somewhere else or a home build but it doesn't seem out of line to think that someone at Fender might decide that a hybrid would have a market.

There are basically three characteristics that define a P bass or J bass. Unless it is a signature model, I don't expect Fender wants to create overlap. I imagine you'd have just as many people who would pickup the bass in the store and be disappointed and say "if only it had a real P neck."

Griping here won't help. Go to the next NAMM and talk to a Fender rep.

"They got the parts lying around at the factory" - Ford does too, but I can't buy a Ford F-150 with a Ford Taurus body in a three-color sunburst.

Go to a custom builder for your build and have them stick a Fender logo on the headstock.

Dear Fender,

I would like a 3 color burst "P" (without a damn J pick-up coming along for the ride) Bass - with a Jazz Neck!!

Is that really too much to ask?

This...but with a "Jazz" width nut (Bound and Blocked would be nice)

Seriously Every Fender I own has been modified by me because they don't make what I want....I have never been able to buy an "off the shelf" Fender that I didn't have to modify
Closest thing was the Jazz Bass Special.
P body, P pup, J neck, MIJ, pretty sure just black and maybe certain solid colors but no bursts. Mid 80’s

[edit]
Oooops.....forgot you don’t want the dang J pup too

That is real easy.

Fender makes a sunburst P bass across almost ALL of their product lines....they also make bound and blocked necks across almost ALL of their product lines...it would not require any special tooling or custom anything...they just have to bolt parts they already make together and ship it out the door.....how is that custom? Because they don't currently offer it? That's the whole damn point of this thread...They should

Why? Just for you?

THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS THREAD IS THAT A P BASS WITH A JAZZ NECK SHOULD BE A STANDARD FENDER OFFERING !!!!! (Already Stated)

thanks...
Not according to the marketing department at Fender. If they felt there was profit to be made on such a configuration, they would be doing it.

Half the TB posts about Fender are "why can't I have a bass with features X, Y, Z, and Q"...

...and the other half of TB posts are "Why do they mess around with a dozen variations on everything, all anyone really wants is just a P or a J."

Fender does have a custom shop. And if that's too expensive, there are a lot of other brands out there.

A taurus body won't bolt up to a F-150 frame and they don't offer a sunburst paint job...A Jazz Neck will bolt to a P body and they do offer a sunburst paint job...(More than one actually) not a good comparison at all

Then Fender is obviously missing the mark and not paying attention...they are driving potential customers to Lakland (Which does offer a jazz neck on a P body) and is the very reason why places like Mighty Mite, Moses, Warmoth, USCG, and a host of other companies exist because Fender won't give them what they want...so they get it elsewhere

you're right, they're cheaper and nicer :bag::bag::bag:

Cheaper? on what planet? Nicer? according to whom?

Again Fender makes Sunburst P basses across almost all of their price points, as well as bound and blocked Jazz necks across almost all of their price points....let's see you spec out a Warmoth build with my proposed parameters including hardware and electronics for the same price a new MIM P bass...or at the cost of A VM Squier P bass...:)

Which Fender could easily do...as the parts already exist
