Is It Really Too Much to Ask?

once again the entire point of this thread is to debate WHY Fender doesn't have this as a standard offering when it is in fact a very popular mod...

But, see, there’s no “debate” because you’re refusing to consider what others are telling you. Which is that FMIC doesn’t agree with you, won’t make money off it, and has chosen not to do it.

Did they try it in the past? Yup. Did they then stop trying? Yup. What’s the more likely reason they stopped?

1. Because the profits weren’t there.
2. In order to peeve Snakeman1066.

Seriously, which is the most likely explanation for “WHY Fender doesn’t have this as a standard offering?”

We’re posting the same thing over and over again because you’re posting the same thing over and over again.

not refusing to consider anything...

But.. how are:

stop whining posts
buy another brand posts
or build it yourself post germane to the exchange?

Fender could very easily slide a P with a J neck, or a J with a P neck into this collection and it would make perfect sense for the company no matter what the rabid fanboys toss out in opposition...

At this point, if Fender does make one, I may never buy another Fender. So, I hope that they are doing it for reason number 2.

Yes. They could. But they don’t. Asking TB “why” is self-defeating when you won’t believe what TB is telling you.

And, as an aside... whining about off-topic posts on an Internet forum is also self-defeating. It’s in the nature of Internet forums for them to go off-topic. You should know that; it’s not your first day on TB. Most of those off-topic posters were trying to be helpful to you. Accept their contributions with grace.

Or? Just keep reposting the same thing. Again. But please stop being surprised if you get 100 posts’ worth of the same kinds of responses. Frankly, many of us just don’t see this as the problem you think it is. Nor, plainly, does FMIC.

I forgot to mention that the Fender Custom Shop Postmodern Bass has a Jazz neck. Interesting that Fender thinks that a P body with a Jazz neck is the "ultimate" setup. Here is the text from the Custom Shop site:

We asked ourselves, “What would be our ultimate gigging bass?” and then promptly set about creating the working bassist’s best friend— the Postmodern Bass. We mated a two-piece, select alder P Bass® body with a speedy tinted, quartersawn maple J Bass® neck hosting a 9.5”-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard and contoured neck heel for the ultimate playability. The Custom Shop hand-wound ’62 P Bass® pickup brings the thunder, thumping with punchy, authentic Fender® bass tone. This bass was designed for nothing but playing; just high-quality components and pure Fender® Custom Shop craftsmanship and innovation.

What are you babbling about? - To my knowledge, Fender bass strings are about the only ones that haven't adopted the longer winding length that doesn't work well with their basses...

To my knowledge I bought some fender long scale bass strings to go on my p bass, and found that the thick portion of the e string wanted to rap the tuning peg, which causes the string to sit at a incorrect angle.

So apparently Fender Japan...Makes or made a Bass with my desired specs...It's called the Hama Okamoto...As I understand, it is a signature model for the bassist of the Okamotos - who's real name is Ikumi Hamada

UPDATE!!

As already stated: Yes I built my own...

I still think it's a shame I can't walk into a store and buy one off the rack, but here she is...

my 50th Birthday present to myself...

Surprise!!!...It's a "P" Bass with a "J" neck ;)

Body and Neck came today on the big brown truck, hardware came last week via USPS...all in I just squeaked in just a hair under $500.00 (well under my $800.00 dollar budget) ans cheaper than a new MIM as well!

Body is from a 2018 Player series as is the neck...I have to say I'm quite impressed with the quality...looks like Fender has really stepped it up in the QC department where MIM's are concerned...I have 4 other MIM's and I gotta say this one quality wise outshines them all

I was under the impression MIM's were all three piece bodies...but i can only find one seam in this (do they do 2 piece bodies when a lot of grain is showing?)

The pick-up is also one of the new Alnico 5's and it seems very throaty with nice mid-range

Switchcraft jack, Orage drop cap, 250K CTS pots

2.5 hours of assembly and set-up and we are good to go...will try it this weekend at band reh

This is sacrilege... if and when Fender contacts me with the information I requested, I'm gonna...

... wait a sec...

... Happy Birthday, @Snakeman1066! Looks pretty sweet to me! Enjoy!

Thanks birthday is a few weeks off yet...but I had the money now...I might not then...lol

It sounds and feels sweet too! and no 2x4 neck!

To my knowledge I bought some fender long scale bass strings to go on my p bass, and found that the thick portion of the e string wanted to rap the tuning peg, which causes the string to sit at a incorrect angle.

Bass String Lengths by Manufacturer

Fender Bass String Winding Length:

  • Short Scale = 32" Ball to Taper
  • Medium Scale = 34" Ball to Taper
  • Long Scale = 36.5" Ball to Taper

I highly doubt you had that happen with Fender bass strings on a Fender Jazz or Precision Bass, to be honest...
