Is Modulus still in Business?

I even understand those that play the game with integrity that is somewhat lacking.

I was recently offered an endorsement deal (not sure why really, I'm nobody of significance, but it proves sometimes being in the right place at the right time with the right people can make a HUGE difference) - the deal would have required that I purchase said item - at a significant discount mind you. Now, I wouldn't mind having this item, but the reality is I probably wouldn't use it for gigging, and frankly, I wouldn't feel right about endorsing a product, just for the sake of having the endorsement, and not really use it. Now if DR wanted to give me an endorsement and send me free strings for life, I'd be all over that! :bassist:

My friend here locally that is (or rather was) a Modulus endorser sure didn't get his instruments free - I don't know what he paid, but I know he was dealing directly with Geoff for his first one - I was with him when he got to pick the quilt top - that had to be more than 20 years ago. The finished product was also the first 6 string bass I ever saw.

I do have a DR endorsement and the strings are not free. I'm sure they might be for people worth having in an advertisement. The discount is good, but it's even better just knowing that they know that I know how great their strings are and that when I tell people what I think about their strings, it's not BS. Love the Sunbeams on my Q6s! I wouldn't use strings just because they are free.

Edwin beat me to it. I, too, have a DR deal and strings are NOT free. I would use DR even if I had to pay retail though. I do really appreciate the relationship I have with the company (and moreso, the relationship I have with Roscoe) and that is really the biggest benefit of endorsements.

I was really joking, I wouldn't expect them to be free, but more to the point that it is a product I use and would gladly, and freely endorse.

So I got my bass back today (the reason I started the thread) after a few weeks of it being held in customs.

Joe Perman did the actual neck repair and refret and it turned out pretty good. A couple of very tiny chips by the frets, but not a biggie. I played it for 15 minutes tonight and it sounds killer. The Quantums truly are special basses.

I was convinced I would sell it, but I am on the fence now (and I never really play 4 strings these days). We shall see.

I wish Joe and Anderson all the best in the future in any case.

I'm guessing they're under some sort of gag order where they're forbidden from disclosing any details. If so, even when that order is lifted, I seriously doubt Modulus will be making any big, formal announcements. It's not their M.O.

There are guys who will pay for what they want and not ask for any kind of a discount but most do not come in the door like that.

This is the question a I ask.

Guys would you really pay for a bass that once you are seen and heard playing, that the company would end up selling more than they normally do?

For the record every time The RHCP tour Japan more Modulus basses are sold.

At the end of the day Flea and Modulus knows what Fleas worth is to the brand.

Great post

This is probably the best post on this thread so far and we can verify it as truth. The Modulus fate will have to be played out in time.

My friend and I call this "chasing the sound monkey" - always running after the sound of the big boys to try and sound like them.

I love what Victor said at a seminar a few years back at GC - " Don't buy this stuff to try and sound like me, you probably will not. Buy it because you like it."

"Novel idea - Buy it because you like it, not because so and so plays it"

I know GK still lists Flea as a player and I am sure he still does, but what will happen when Flea take those new Acoustic Reissues out on stage. Will it hurt GK, maybe - maybe not.

Thanks for your thoughts on this one - I enjoyed the read.

Lenny

Wow - that was a well thought out post.

Actually, I was posting to JAUQO III earlier post. There is wisdom in his posts on this subject. People should go back and read them again.

This started out about "was Modulus still in business" and has went from that to getting gear for free, to people stalking Modulus with riding by the factory and just about anything else under the sun.

The one really nice part has been people who have posted pics of their Modulus basses - thank you all for the pics of some really cool pretty basses.

I went to see RHCP shortly after the news broke on TB that Flea took the large order of Acoustic 360's.

And even after the video of him playing the star spangled banner through one at a lakers game.

Low and behold he had a line of GK gear when we got to the concert.

I don't think he'd drop them anytime soon either.
