Is Modulus still in Business?

I care! I just bought a brand new $3,600.00 Modulus Q5 fretless back in December of 2012. And I would really like to know if they are out of business. What do I do if the neck goes out. Am I f**k*d!

I love my Q5 fretless. I waited a long time to get it. And I don't regret buying it. But it really bums me out that now there might not be a company to back it up if something goes wrong with it.

Can totally understand your concerns. Not sure if this will be a consolation but I bought my neck-through Quantum bass in 1988 and have never had any problems with the neck or any other problems with the bass that required me to contact Modulus for support. The one I have pre-dates when they started adding a truss rod. At least there is some adjustment that can be made to the newer models.

I did play a Quantum bass at a music store in 1989 that had a really bowed neck. Odd considering that it hadn't even sold yet, you think the shop would have returned it. At any rate I don't have any idea of the rate of failure with the necks but imagine it to be quite low unless production went into the toilet when Geoff sold the company.

I need to replace the input on mine...it makes a loud pop if I move around...any ideas?

You may need a new output jack. The earth sleeve part of the jack wears or gets dirty and movement can cause the earth connection to become interrupted which interferes with the earth circuits function causing crackles or no sound at all. In addition to this, in an active bass this switches the preamp off and on causing loud pops (putting the cable in completes the earth circuit for the preamp and thus acting as a switch).
As for ideas about a replacement jack, a switchcraft stereo jack or equivalent will do.

Do you have a link to the one I should get?

The stereo? I thought it would be mono. ?? The bass is 18 volt active.

I'm actually fascinated by this whole thing. I don't have anything against Modulus at all (I owned a Q6 once, and it was great), I'm just curious at the way things are being handled (apparently). Coupled with what I've heard from within the industry, the way this is playing out is very interesting.
