Is my GAS gone for good??

From what I see in the OP there's 3 basses. So there's a problem (or opportunity). You play the Steinberger, then you play the J then you play the P type. What then? Do you just give up? NO. You dig in and get another. You can pick any you want. But you can't just give up. Plus, the Steiny, cool as it is, doesn't really count as a full bass. It doesn't have a headstock, doesn't really have a full body. So that's 2 1/2 basses so the Least you can do is get another Steiny. It's just about doing the right thing.

Funny I'm the opposite. I have been primarily a guitarist for years but over the past few months have been playing the heck out of my Music Man Stingray 4 and I think my musical future may be on the bass. I'm a big fan of Chris Squire and Geddy Lee and I'm GAS-ing pretty hard for a Ric right about now. Before that I have to move one of my guitars - and buying and selling with today's pandemic situation ain't easy!

Not a Steinberger fan but your P and J Basses work for me. That's all I use on stage and that's all I need.

No 5s for me! BUT-The ONLY bass I want to add, if any, is a 77-78 stingray. Prices are ridiculous though..

I expected that canceled gigs and rehearsals would kill GAS, but my band mates have been discussing new songs and I realized I could use a few effects I never used before. So I decided it was finally time to put together a pedal board, which suddenly fueled pedal GAS.

Thankfully, after about two weeks and only two new pedals, I concluded I didn't need a lot of pedals and was perfectly happy with a board that has a few useful effects and a few useful utility pedals. GAS gone.





For now.

I'm with you. Very happy with the gear I am blessed to own, and just trying to take this time to make good use of it.

Though my eye is still caught by interesting pedals and tiny tube amps. Those items appeal to me like shiny objects appeal to birds. Hopefully they don't lower prices to "offer I can't refuse" levels.

I have a soft rule where I limit the number of basses I own at any given time to 5. Currently, my 5 includes the following:
  1. Fender Player P-Bass
  2. Fender Standard Jazz Bass
  3. Fender FrankenJag
  4. SBMM Ray 34
  5. Ibanez TMB600
I am very happy with my current collection but would likely move my Ray 34 our for an American made Music Man but aside from that I am not GASing for a new bass...well...I do have my eye on a Reverend Thundergun that's on the wall at my local shop so I might have to up my limit up to 6.

Saying that I am in that point between GASing hard for a Helix Stomp or POD Go...either one of these will likely be my next major purchase.

Crazy..you are one of several who has mentioned pedals..I have never owned or used a pedal. I wonder if I should try some out when the stores re-open. I guess I never had a reason to look, the music I play is pretty basic..Eagles, Hall and Oates, reggae, disco..many others

Agreed! On the board I finally just put together, I have 9 pedsls on a board that isn't technically loaded with "effects" (four are wireless receiver, low+high pass filter, compressor, and DI). I was shocked when I realized I had 19 other pedals that didn't make the cut!

The sad part is how deeply and quickly I went down that rabbit hole. At least now I'm finally putting together a board I'll I'll actually use.

It's interesting that even though you have nothing specific on your radar to look for, you're still browsing the ads and doing a little troubleshooting.

I say this as I noticed the same behavior in myself and did a little introspection as to why. For now my GAS has to be supported by a need strategy, for example I just picked up a fiver on TB because I want to start learning more modern material and pick up different gigs when we can go out into the world again. No more shopping just to shop :)
