Is my GAS gone for good??

My bass gas is taken care of, unfortunately there are still a couple of guitars that draw me in and will cost me a small car each. Lol

My GAS has shifted to a Teenage Engineering OP-1. Partly because we don't have any room left for basses.

It’s interesting that even though you have nothing specific on your radar to look for, you’re still browsing the ads and doing a little troubleshooting.

I say this as I noticed the same behavior in myself and did a little introspection as to why. For now my GAS has to be supported by a need strategy, for example I just picked up a fiver on TB because I want to start learning more modern material and pick up different gigs when we can go out into the world again. No more shopping just to shop

Yeah you have a good point..I think for me, its almost a "reassurance" type thing with browsing. Now don't get me wrong, I love basses but currently its nice to know that I don't have to take a gamble, get something shipped and only to resell it or return it. I went through that for a while and its was exhausting and frustrating..

Need is a strong term, but for the most part my GAS has subsided quite a bit over the past years as I've been able to "complete" parts of my arsenal. Having a kid with another one on the way has helped quite a bit too. For the most part I've got things covered - tube / class D, stacks / combo, ported / sealed, 4 / 5, acoustic and electric. DIs for days and increasingly limited space. Anything from here needs to be a trophy piece, and I'm too pragmatic to justify or chase unicorns as a matter of course.

Though, a Chris Woltenholme signature Status would be cool... or a Zon Legacy Elite... and I don't have anything fretless...

Then there's the Classic SVT and the NV610...

I have one pedal. It's an old compressor. Lately, I've been window shopping octavers and delays. And maybe a high pass filter. Anyway, a few nights ago I had a dream that a pedal I ordered arrived in the mail........and it was another compressor.

This is probably how it would go in real life, and I'd end up with 15 pedals I don't need and still be on the lookout for the one I think I do need.

Don't go down that road.

It's the best bass in its price-range, but not perfect. I got this one for $100 & then put another $100 in it doing "mods" & making it perfect:

For a bass that's the best bang-for-buck w/o needing any work, go for a SR eXtreme (SRX):

I read this thread earlier tonight, and the question rattled in the back of my head for several hours. I can't think of anything I'm really GAS-ing for, that there are a few basses that if they ever fell into my lap at the correct price and time I'd grab. There's always the mystical Lotto win purchases I wonder about, like a new Alembic Series, but with current exchange rates it would cost a decent percentage of my apartment's price, so that's not gonna happen.

Last bass purchase was several months ago, and the last accessory was a Zoom B3n as I've never used FX before in my rig, and for the price, (NIB unwanted gift) I thought why not.

I'm going to build a new 15/6 cab because I have the drivers already and then maybe buy a small lightweight amp. My old Peavey MkVI amp and 15 cab will soldier on here but it's too heavy to move about now. And it looks like rubbish.

It might be fun to try some different pickups in some, like the SR706, but we'll see if that happens.

Otherwise, there's really nothing I want. I still regularly search ebay and Reverb etc, but not feeling the hand moving towards my wallet.

I haven’t decided on what I am going to buy or if I am gonna buy. Definitely not buying anything til the “virus” is over. Still doing a lot of “window shopping” for a while longer. Give me a little longer to build up some funds. 90% sure when I do buy it will be used.

Went to the pawnshop on Saturday, just because it was open.
They had two Ibanez in there that were purchase-worthy, a TBM100 in pristine condition with a nice case for only $123 (out the door).
The case was exactly like the Ibanez-labeled case I have at home that came with a BTB300, but it had Chroma-Cast as the brand.

The other was a banged-up SR eXtreme (SRX), but IME those are great value for money.
I wasn't really tempted to buy, however.

IF it was a Premium Soundgear with Nordstrand pickups & it was somehow lower mass than my current one, then I might be interested.

GAS never goes away for good as long as you have breath, but it does decrease or go away for a time.
Sometimes it is life giving you bigger things to deal with.
