is there a 4 ohm cab that's rated 500 watts?

I'd like to find a single 4 ohm cab that could utilize the 500 watt amp my Peavey Minimax has, is it possible?

Hopefully something lightweight exists, doesn't matter speaker amount or size.

Any fEARful: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] can handle 500 watts. The 12/12/6 and 15/15/6/6 are 4 ohms (as is the 12/12sub).

just curious what would happen if I ran a pair of 4 ohm cabs with my peavey minimax, or how about a pair with 1 4 ohm and 1 8 ohm cabs?

If you have a 4 ohm 410, and an 8 ohm 210, sporting the same drivers and in a reasonably similar performing enclosure, then you have a modular 610 that requires a head that can address a nominal 2.67 ohm load. This arrangement is killer for flexibility AND potential slam. :cool:

Each driver gets the same amount of power and produces very similar output. Remember, you must have a 2 ohm capable head, which I think may be an issue here.

I own four 4Ω Acme B2 2x10s. I chose 4Ω because all of my amplifiers have dual output channels and each are stable at 2Ω. The vast majority of bass amplifiers are only safe down to 4Ω, including the OP's unit, which is why I wrote what I wrote. :)

Thinking that a 4Ω box will be significantly louder than an 8Ω one is a fallacy!
the perceived loudness will depend on the strength of the amp and the total cone surface area..but every 4 ohm speaker cab I have ever heard is louder than an 8 ohm speaker cab with the same speaker configuration..and if you have an amp with both gain and master..just rotate the knobs and you can certainly tell the difference..the 8 ohm cab will always have twice the resistance..which may not be noticable at lower volumes..but cranked up..the difference is more evident..3 DB difference..the 8 ohm cab is making the amp work harder..at the upper levels of power..the 4 ohm cab will certainly sound bigger..

I've always wondered why companies made a 4 ohm cab if people here seem to think it's a bad idea if I were to want to add another cab. I would assume a 4 ohm cab was made so that it can handle what it's meant to handle on its own without an "extension cab" to carry one another. There were some people on another forum regarding powered PA speakers who have said that a high grade 10" speaker (like the Yamaha DXR series) would kill any 12" speaker not in the same league as the Yamaha DXR. The Yamaha DXR 10" speakers actually has more power than an Electro-Voice ZLX-12P (12" speakers). I would think a 4 ohm speaker would also be more powerful than an 8 ohm speaker.

News Flash! Most of the companies that make the cabs don't build stuff based on what is said in forums.
The reason they make 4 Ohm cabs is because there are enough people who want them, even if they don't know why they want them.
"Wow man, I can get a 4 Ohm cab for the same price as an 8 and just totally be way louder."

Twice the impedance.

The 8 Ohm cab is not making the amp work harder, the guy using the amp is doing that.
8 Ohms presents less of a load to a SS amp than a 4. Less loading = not working as hard.

what you say is correct..with less resistance a 4 ohm cab allows the amp to work easier..

How about a 2Ω cab to make the amp work even easier. Amplifiers have a minimum impedance figure so that users will not try to attach too low an impedance and therefore destroy their amplifiers. If you connect a 4Ω load to an amplifier with an 8Ω minimum you will, eventually, destroy it.

The OP's amplifier would be soon damaged by connecting such a load.

Speaker cabinets also have a maximum power level that they can safely handle. Go over that and the cabinet blows. Just rotating the knobs to put out more power is not good advice.

3Db is not a great increase in loudness. Remember it's a logarithmic scale. To get twice as loud you would have to increase power by ten times.

I was referring to turning the knobs up to hear the difference at an increased volume / power level...not run at that level at a constant pace..
 
There are several cabs that support 2 ohm loads. Dg M900, aguilar db 751 both support 2 ohm loads. Having 2, 4 ohm cabs is pretty sweet with those heads if you can crank it.

Problem is that all this has nothing whatsoever to do with the original question. The OP has a 4Ω minimum amp. He simply cannot run at less than a 4Ω load.

If used is ok, i'd be surprised if the GB NeoX-212 hasn't been mentioned after page 2 (where i stopped reading.)
