Just picked this up price seemed ok for what it's worth but is it legit? Not that it really matters but just so I know what i got if I were to let it go.

Is this a Fake Ric TRC?

Make sure your FS ad indicates it ia very much a fake; do not misrepresent what it really is.

is it ethical to have a piece of plastic cost $250 when it should be $10
A lot of us make our own TRCs and put them on our Real Rickenbacker basses

YOU think it should be $10. Any object's worth is determined by what people will pay for it, and nothing else. What, you've never paid a premium for something based on its label - a car, a beer, a pair of sneakers?

just because someone will over pay does not make it ethical … you call it premium … I call it price gouging
I'm sure most of you already know why people get so much money for real Ric TRC's, Rickenbacker will not sell them without a broken return or something proving you own a real one, too many people used to put them on fakers and sell them for the real thing, that should be obvious. Rickenbacker defends their name and patents, I agree 100% and would do the same if I owned a company like that. You look at a video or on a stage and see a "Precision" bass, a "Jazz" bass or a "Les Paul" guitar and you don't know if it's a real one or one of many different copies that are out nowadays unless you're close enough to read it or the headstock shape is slightly different, you see a Ric you know what it is immediately unless it's a faker with a Ric TRC cover on it which thanks to Rickenbacker's policy is not very common anymore.
What i find funny is that some of the fake ones look better made than the real ones..... for a 20th of the price
I bought a pack of the Chinese fakes when I picked up my walnut 4003s/5 last year - I wanted to nondestructively switch out the white PG and TRC to black, but I always keep original parts to restore back in case I ever want to sell a bass. (I have a bankers box full of two gallon ziplocks, one for each bass.) When I installed it, I scratched "FAKE TRC" on the backside and filled it with a quick wipe of white paint to make it clearly and permanently obvious that it wasn't a Ric TRC.
