I actually chuckled at your post. You come off as angry. But I know the neck is worth more than a standard u.s. neck. It's quarter-sawn and it has superior fretwork and it is in fact a custom shop neck which makes it superior. So again, I disagree with you completely.

Back to your original question (not sure if someone has brought up this already), check the pots which should be close in age to the body stamped in the neck pocket. The mutes holes position shows poor craftsmanship (sign this is not a CS) and also the knobs are not historically correct. If I were you, I'd keep looking.

FYI, there are two Fender Jazz custom shop bodies (along with the bridge and neck plate) for sale on eBay (olympic white and ice blue metallic). The seller is "Stratosphere" which is a very reputable seller. They've been selling guitar/bass parts on there for years. NO affiliation.

These two bodies at the Stratosphere are the Custom Classic model that is active (hence the routing) and is with a 21 or 22 fret neck. The geometry of these bodies, incl. the bridge and PU cavities location, the shapes of the pickguard and the neckplate, are similar to the former American Deluxe models and are different from a 20 fret passive Jazz Bass.

Crazy, I now own this bass. I traded recently with someone and was googling this Dr and the stamp code and came upon this thread. Well, the bass has been hacked up. It looks like it was definitely a American Vintage Reissue 62.

I received it with a 1970 jazz bass neck on it, custom seymour duncan pickups and someone added another pot to make it a standard jazz bass setup and not a stack knob. It has the 2 cloth wires for the pickups and then another wire was added to handle the additional pot.

And I too reached out to the Doc before i happened upon this thread. LOL

This poor Dr. will never make the mistake of leaving his personal stamp in an instrument he sells again!

Did he respond to you, also? If so, good on him for taking the time to answer questions about a bass he's probably forgotten a few times, only to be randomly reminded of it a few times years later.
