Is this a real player jazz

Okay. So, first of all, downgrading don’t go down well round here, even if you are a guitarist but I understand. Not clear how much of a profit you’re going to make off this deal to put to a guitar build. Don’t know what you’re building but I hope you don’t end up with two instruments you’re not totally happy with. Good luck.
I'm thinking I'll take the MIM plus $800 cash. If we value the MIM at $450 or $500 that would mean I'm valuing my Pro 2 at $1250 or $1300

I won’t be one to question your bass buying/trading decisions because I respect it, but to answer your question that is a 2010 Mexican Standard model. This predates the Player Series but they are basically both Mexican Standards.

IMO the Player Series are better overall, but ultimately it’s your call.

Good luck!

The seller has it listed as a Player series bass.
Clearly it's not.
It's an 11-year-old MIM bass.
How old is your bass, a year or so?
A new Player Jazz bass sells for $750.
What does an 11-year-old MIM sell for, $450, maybe $500?
Is he purposely misrepresenting it or did he buy it from someone who lied to him?
If he knows it's not a Player bass, can you trust anything else he says?
Just about every other Fender bass you see on Reverb is titled as a Player series, it’s annoying...

Nothing is wrong with it. Heres the part I left out. I play guitar and bass and I need cash for a guitar build but I still need a decent playable bass. My band has percussion, drums, keyboards, vocals, backing vocals. I feel like I can play a player or MIM standard and fit well in the mix. And use the xash from the deal to build my strat.
You just need to go sell some blood plasma and keep the Pro II

I get your thinking, man.

I play guitar in a band too, but I have resisted falling into the gear trap this time around.
I only own one guitar, a 2011 US Fender Tele special. It's a good workhorse, and does everything I need it to when playing live. Yes, I could afford to upgrade to a 'nicer' guitar, but time spent drooling over gear is time lost practicing and playing.

If you think you will get just as much out of a Player series as your Pro II, then go for it. Just shop around and find a good one, because QC will be more varied with cheaper instruments.

View attachment 4319692 View attachment 4319693 View attachment 4319694 I’m thinking of trading my American Pro 2 jazz bass for a player jazz plus cash. Do you think this is a real player jazz bass? The lettering on the headstock is black with gold outline but at fender and Seeetwater websites the headstock lettering is gold with black outline. Also, at fender and Seeetwater the player jazzes have the F stamped neck plate.
When I zoom in on the back of the headstock it does have made in Mexico with an Mx serial #.
Why on earth would you trade an American pro for a used, bare bones, player series? If you sell it at guitar center, you can buy a brand new one, and probably pocket a couple hundred.

I totally get your logic, OP, and I think you have your numbers in a good place. Just try to avoid doing the deal from a position of weakness. If the other person isn’t going to give you close to that valuation, you can always sell yours on the private market and buy a different used MIM jazz.

A few years ago, I did basically this but with different instruments. I had a much nicer trombone than I needed, so I found a buyer (took my time!), and ended up getting good value for it. Then I found a great deal on an older, more workhorse used pro horn AND had enough money to buy a new Kiesel. Anyone who played trombone probably thought I was crazy, but I was able to take excess value from one place and make a (totally unnecessary but fun) purchase.

So I pased on the deal. The main reson is the guy with the Mexican standard said it was a 2018 Player series that he bought "new from Fender in 2018" and he was the original owner. Clearly neither of those statements are true. The neck is most likely authentic but there is no way of being sure about the body or the electronics.
Yeah good choice. Get an actual Player Series bass, those are IMO the best bang-for-your-buck no-bells-and-whistles Fenders out there. The pickups are one of the better ones too, definitely better than the first gen V-Mods.

Wouldn't matter how much money he's sweetening the deal with, I wouldn't deal with a liar.
