Is this mold or ancient 80s buffing compound?

I had a Hondo Master Caster that had white powdery stuff on it when I bought it. It had a smell to it, even the case smelled funny, but not moldy. It had a waxy, industrial smell to it. When I opened it up after a few years to replace the five way switch, there was white powder residue in the control cavity.

im not sure but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be light, don’t actually own a scale lol. But it is an 86 and this info piece from musicman was written in 87, so I’ve figured it’s made of ultra light ash wood

this is the most gross possible option LOL

Of course! I traded a classic for it and paid the difference in value between the two, I might trade back cause I sorta miss the classic a bunch, IMO the classic sounds like a hybrid between the pre-eb Sabre and the eb Sabre, I feel like the classic has very very slightly bigger pickups too. However this sounds gorgeous in its own right, so I probably am leaning towards keeping it. Most handsome bass I have by a mileView attachment 4557772View attachment 4557784also I think I’ll just end up also getting a classic down the line when ones for sale, the price is only gonna go up, but those things are so consistent and well made that I’m willing to buy it without playing it

Nice! Cool color - sienna burst? You don’t see that color very often. I have a saber classic, natural, Rosewood board that I like a lot!

Bought an old 80s Sabre and have found white residue in some spots, it smells like a basement sorta, I just chalked it up to a bad case, haven’t taken off the neck cavity but I did notice similar white residue around there between the neck and the pickguard.

but this pickup lever is absolutely covered in it, I’d imagine if it were mold it would be all over the preamp.

if it’s mold what do I do? Should I return it? Neck seems to be in good working order doesn’t seem warped or anything, plays good, doesn’t buzz or anything
Looks like a whole lot of calcium build up. That's what happens when copper corrodes. Normally, you'd just take a wire brush with some coca cola to it, but this is a guitar. This is not a car battery. Wipe it off. You can hit it with a squirt of de-oxit first.
