Any “famous mud” you’re hearing is all him or the amp. You couldn’t get mud out of one of those pickups on a bet. But that’s what happens when you have somebody who’s not (by his own admission) a bass player demoing something like a Victory.

And all that clank! What’s up with that? His technique is so bad he might as well have been playing it with a drumstick or a mallet. Those pickups are very touch sensitive by design. Slam on a Gibson Victory or dig in too aggressively and all it’ll do is bark at you. And it’s not a pretty sound when it does.

I've seen several basses demoed by the gentleman in question and was never pleased by what he got out of them in the least.

I played one long ago, it was red. It had a nice high end and mellow lows what else could you ask for? As for it's looks, typical 80's coolness

To each his or her own, I don’t think that bass sounds fantastic!

Whatever they are charging for it is probably too much!

I did a quick search and the price variation is from $750 to the $1200 range

I had one that was the Artist edition, all black, dual hum buckers. It sounder very piano like. I liked that bridge (Schaller) and ordered one from Gibson for my Ibanez. Looks like this:

Gawd. The more more look at these basses, the more I like them. Especially this one.

Upper strap button on the underside of the horn. That would bother me. Like those SG's or Vee's with that button on the back of the heel.

On those guitars you'd have to put the strap on the button backwards so it didn't pull the button out of the strap. Even then the guitars would want to flop forward.

It seems they always have to do something to fudge it up.

12 lbs heavy. They don't feel or sound like a fender. I'd buy another if I was in the market for a new bass.

I dig it.... even if that schmuck butchered the Three Steps bass line.

A friend played a grey one in the mix 80s. Sounded great.

I'm not a fan of the colour but the shape is nicer than any Gibson bass I've ever seen. At least it wouldn't have as much tendency to dive as all other Gibson bases I've seen.

Well, if you listen through his technique (whether you like it or not), I hear great growly tone under there, with fingers and pick.

It might sound cleaner with some of us playing it, but a little clank? Not the end of the world. Go listen to some iconic isolated bass tracks.

Cool aesthetic, rare and unique.

I have a red one that I took apart during a lapse of good judgement. It still sits in the closet and I'm thinking about putting it back together. Mine did not sound like the one in the video.
