It's too bad Peavey gets ZERO respect.

Troll thread...

I do believe that we're cautious of being specific models to select.

Offer still stands to any lurker.. PM me with ad links.. I can help value and describe it...I'd then love to do a free setup on it for you.

Tim

I have vintage Fender, botiques and Peavey... quite sincerely the Peavey USA stuff is the better bet

I see plenty of people who like Peavey stuff on here. Im not one of them.

The only thing Ive had or listened to of theirs that is anywhere near "considerable" would be the obvious 5150 guitar head and the Ultra head.

People rave about their basses, but I just dont see it. Ive got a US made Fury from back in the day. Its a piece, I use it as wall art.

Peavey is like the Kalshnikov of bass manufacturers. You could bury a T-40 and dig it up a month later, and it would work as well as it did out of the box. There are certainly better performers out there, but few as reliable and sturdy as a Peavey.

I have owned a couple of Peavey amps and didn't like them. My old band also had some Peavey PA gear which they purchased prior to me joining the band. They replaced it shortly after I joined. To be honest, I would never buy anything made by Peavey. The quality just isn't what it should be but I guess that's why they are priced where they are. To be fair though, I know a couple of very experienced players who are using Peavey guitars and love them. I'll stick to my vintage Fenders, Alembics and Ibanez basses and my GK and Eden amps and cabs.

I could never understand why Peavey's are so underrated. You can't beat an old Peavey Mark IV bass head, no worse or better than my Ampeg SVT4 Pro to be honest w/ you. I tried a new Peavey head (not sure the model) and it was great. Guitar amp wise, many "new metal" bands are recording with the 5150 or 6505. Peavey's rule! Peavey makes a great high end bass as well

I had known about Peavey bass amps and cabs for a long time. Until I joined TB and heard this track, I didn't even know what s Cirrus was...

.........but I knew then and there that I HAD TO HAVE A CIRRUS!!!! Next to my Ken Smith Black Tiger 5, my Cirrus Bubinga/Walnut is the best bass that I have ever played or owned, including an Alembic Spoiler and a Warwick Thumb 5 BO that I sold to get my Smith.

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

When I first got to TB, honestly I was shocked at how much respect Peavey gets here.

+10000

Some peavy gear now may be good, but when I was starting, it was all 100% crap. All of it. The PAs, the amps... Lord those bass amps from the '70s were a joke.

They clearly got better - eventually, some of their gear was downright nice... But I just can't get past the... well, the past. Their marketroids have failed to turn skeptics like me. Too bad, so sad. There is TONS of great gear out there, so why buy something that I don't dig, for any reason?

The reason Peavey does not get as much respect as the OP would like them to is:

They built a lot of really crappy stuff in the 70s and 80s. When they finally got around to making good stuff they had established a brand identity most people equated with cheap crappy stuff.

Now, we'll hear from folks who insist that those amps from the '70s are "Vintage"...

I call it 'Peavey Stigma'. I say buy one and pocket the savings after every gig.

I never saw a Peavey I couldn't make a good sound come out of.

Other than that, they are heavy, not very pretty, and decidedly unhip. Big deal.

Give me a Peavey and nobody will ever object to my tone --as long as they are blindfolded.

It's so ridiculous.

Yeah, Peavey is pure trash...In fact, you should all send me your crappy Peavey gear (especially if you have a Mark VIII bass head) and I'll haul it away in my hearse and give it a proper burial....;)

Peavey IS the Rodney Dangerfield of music equipment and although it's sad, and unfair, it is also a cause to celebrate. Peavey USA basses are the BEST value out there! I have a modded T-45 and an import Milestone. Both bought for less than their true value. Also, I once bought an old Peavey PA head from the 80's for $5.
