I know there were a few hard feelings and resentment in a few bands I left. I can’t do anything about that and it doesn’t concern me nor should the OPs situation concern him.

3 weeks since OP so unless the BL is a real snugglemuffin it's done by now.

It is done, I just haven't checked back, I didn't see any notifications of new posts.

Actually the last gig 2 weeks ago went off pretty well. The BL was very nice. I think it supprised him at first and he didn't really know how to take it.

I also think he believed that I was leaving for reasons other than what I had told him, but came to realize that was the reason.

I left on good terms, and when I went a few days later to pick up my practice amp from the band room, we talked. He talked about how he had worked with my replacement before and the guy, though really excited about playing, was the type liable to call him up and quit at a moments notice.

I told him if that happened to call me, I would help out in a pinch, I just couldn't do it on a regular basis like before. My wife and I agreed that once in a while fill in would be possible.
He really seemed to appreciate that.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm glad that it went well, and I think I'll be able to keep my toe in playing music somewhere filling in ince in a while.

Sorry, just deleted a response because I didn't notice the thread was so old. Glad it went better than expected. Basically I just said that the BL was lucky to have you and you didn't owe him anything. It's still true, but it seems like his attitude was coming from fear that the new guy wasn't going to work out. At least he got that out in the open.

I hope the new old guy proves very reliable this time around. The stripes on your BL indicate he will be putting all the pressure right back on you as soon as he is a bass player short.

I hope so for their sake, he's older now and hopefully more settled.
I've really liked working with them. Who knows, if my situation changes, and they need me someday, I can get back with them.
We never know what lies ahead.

After 5 years I'm leaving the band for personal reasons. It's family matters and they come first.

I've given ample notice since gigs are pending, but the BL is still upset with me.
I understand his frustration, but i didn't just quit. I've even made my replacement up a songlist with song title/artist names, which is more than he'll get from the BL.
I even offered to help my replacement, if he wants it, with some of the arrangements.

The bands been good to me and I wouldn't want to leave on bad terms, but this is the part I hate... waiting out those last gigs knowing how the BL feels, instead of being thankful I didn't leave him in a lurch.

I really don't know what else I could do. It is what it is.

How has your experience been with having to quit? Did you ever feel that "I wish I could just go now" feeling?

I really need to go now but I'll stick it out until the date I gave them.
