I can honestly say that is the only sg bass that I would want to play. Every bass they made with that body shape seems to have a tone that doesn't work for me at all, although many other models of gibson basses sound great to me.

I'd rock that Gibby P like crazy though cuz SG guitars, on the other hand, are one of my favorites, and I think it looks great. I'd definitely do something about that pick guard shape, maybe a 3d printed custom one, but otherwise it's very cool looking imho.

It makes me think of the custom bass Misa of the Japanese band Band Maid has. It's a 5 string with an EB/SG body and a P bass pickup, made by the Japanese maker Black Cloud.

I’ve seen other SG/EB basses with a P slapped in them. That one honestly looks like a hack job to me though.

40 odd years ago I did the same (routed perfectly) to a slot head EB3L that I just couldn't get a usable tone out of.
My main bass at that stage was a 67 Ricky 4001, so 2 vastly different animals on stage.
It sounded great with the P in the sweet spot. I wouldn't do it these days though .
Currently my 65 EB0 is only running one of the coils in the mudbucker with both capacitors snipped on one leg.
Played with a pick and a set of chromes it has fantastic articulation.
Not that I don't adore the Felix overdriven sound, it's just that I have sadly never been called on to play a Mountain song ...
I can now get a very passable Carol Kaye sound which I find much more useable.
It is also a 15 minute soldering job to put it back to standard if I had to.

If it's up for sale, I hope the seller knew going into the modification that the resale value would be negatively affected. Either way, hats off to any owner who decides to make their bass work better for them! I do the same, but I typically won't if I expect to re-sell soon.

I kinda like that look of this one too. The reverse P on the OP’s was a mistake imo.

The second bass I ever owned was a second generation EB1 (69) with a mudbucker. Il loved the way it played, but was really unhappy with the tone. I really, really wanted to do this to it, but my Dad wouldn't help me out, he talked me into selling it and getting a 73 Jazz. been a fan of single coils ever since...

Similar here, Gibson Epiphone EB-0 with added centrally located split Duncan Producer pickup from Korea. 3-way PU toggle switch added too.

Stock neck Sidewinder mudbucker replaced by Dimarzio after market humbucker made for this use.
I can’t argue with the tone but the ergonomics of the short heavy body be boosting my arthritis so I'm moving it on. Mine looks to be a cleaner mod than the OPer's.
I have no kick with someone lowering the value with improved or more versitile tone mods, but I'm too cheap to ever do it. Better to use an Epiphone or Squier.
