the other jackson bass that i've played don't sound like the JC model. its got a lot of mid range growl to it, a lot of gain in the tone. which isn't a bad thing, if that's what your wanting. ;)

I love this bass. I bought it on a whim for just over 200 bucks when I was in a shred metal mood after playing guitar in a shred metal band for a while and now it's my main bass.

Although I did finally get around to yanking some unwanted alembic actives out of my hamer scarab and replacing all the electronics, so I might have to end that bass' 4 year vacation too.

I am having some kind of midlife crisis after playing nothing but fenders for a while... all my basses have to pass hair-metal muster lately.

lol, midrangy growl is one of those "tones" that people spend a lifetime looking for :D ( and I don't mean that crappy EPIphone Tbird growl either, as my Epi is my Epi, it has it's own unique tone )

if I had to answer the "what Jackson bass do I own that sounds "clean" and not growly, would be my 4B with the preamp. turn the volume knob up past 1/2 and the clean becomes a bassy growl which makes me happy.

As far as all the passive "models" I have...yep, they are not for you if your looking for a dead string bassy muffled tone as the OEM equipped non-preamped Jacksons are very bright....let the FenderFreaks have their "vintage P-bass dead flatwound tone"...I am not ripping on that or the FenderFreaks, I just don't need/want or like that "dead tone" in my daily playing or gigs. If I want a muffled bassy flatwound string tone, I'll buy an upright.

In defense of the people who like that sound, I also have a Jazz that sounds as typical as any Jazz I ever heard for those times when I'm doing studiowork on certain tunes that require that tone.

are the Jacksons one-trick rock/metal-ponies? Only to those who think so....

Thanks, that is nice to hear. Do you happen to know anything about this bass? I know it's a kelly and they don't make em anymore but that's about it.
I have no idea what kind of version it is. I'm guessing it's a low to midpriced bass with the chrome hardware and duncan designed pickups.

And one last question, is there a jackson club around here?
I would like to join.

I know exactly what you mean about the TBX...if I ever saw one, the first person I'd tell would be amimbari hahaha

Your bass looks like a KBX...I know ones like that were made in 2002....

I'm curious about that myself. I figured that maybe this was the closest we had :D

TBX's are probably rarer than the customBirds they made back then. My friend in Germany has 2 of them, as well as a C/S Bird made with a KahlerTrem on it. Could you "ever" find one beyond the 3 we know are out there? --- hard to say, since I have seen more customJacksonBirds than TBX's in the 10 years I have looked.

if I was a dealer I would not want to take a risk to stock one if I thought it was gonna sit on the shelf. 27 USA dealers in 1994, noone can tell me stats which ones stocked them including the non-USA dealers.... so was there 100 made? 20 made? 10 made? who knows....I bought mine new out of the box before the dealer could even put it on display.

in those days to buy a Gib-Bird was 1300, and the TBX was 1800, so cost was also a factor in the equation for a production line model when for around 2 grand you could get a custom whatever from any company.

as far as another "CLUB", just owning a CharvelJackson gives us the satisfaction of knowing that WE DON'T NEED A NUMBER to proudly display our guitars and basses to the world.

who needs a "number" when just owning one automatically enters you into the "Charvel/Jackson club membership" :D:bassist::D

Maybe you're right about that, but I would like people to know i'm proud to play these basses and i'm not just playing jacksons because my guitarist is playing one and I want to look cool or something (i'm not even in a real band).

I'm also new here, and I need to join clubs to put them in my signature ;)

"proud member of the Charvel/Jackson family since 1987" substitute the 1987 for the year you got yours :)

either that or toss a ton of videos on youtube with you using it and put your youtube link in the sig like I do you cause you want people to "see and hear" it, not just a picture.

Maybe I'll do that then ;) The youtube videos isn't a great idea though, I'm a lousy bass player :hiding:

lousy is only considered lousy until you see/hear someone else who is worse...I have been around a long time yes, and can OUTPLAY many in all types of music yes, but there are still WAY more people who to me, make me look lousy despite what I can do, but that never stops me from trying to do what they can.

the first one was a Concert which was owned by a fellow member of the band. I never bought it, since I could use it anytime and did for a couple years so I wouldn't have to use my SG/EB GibsonClone.. ( yes he allowed me to move the strap pin so I could play it flipped )

I took a couple years off back then to get my stuff together in life, and started back up in 91-92 using my SG again, then I said no more when I got the chance to be in the Maiden trib band, and My FIRST bought and owned Jackson was the TBX in 94, and I was possessed from then on to own a few ( or a dozen )...lolol....

I know, how typical to buy a bass JUST for a band to get the look and tone you want huh???

It would be nice to see the re-issuing of the Kelly bass.The Jackson basses seem to be very limited these days.Should have more than the CMG or metal's flavour of the month bringing out signature basses like so many other makers have done in order to bolster sales.
