Sorry to repeat the picture for a third time but I'm curious about this one. I found a white one that's supposedly in great condition last night and of course the seller is making it sound like it's the perfect bass.

It looks to have similar contours (arm and tummy) to the P bass, which I love, so I wouldn't mind checking it out. What is the neck like on these things? Looks like it can offer quite an array of tonal options.

Is the center section of the body raised? It looks like there's a ridge on the wings.

It is probably this white one on EBAY this week eh?... :)

anyway, the eliminator series of the Fusions had a raised ridge ONLY on the one side perhaps to give more options of where to "rest" your thumb/finger instead of having it rest on the pickup since there is no such thing as a "thumbrest" on a standard Jack-bass. The Eliminator also came with the preamp. The fusion has beveled edges around the whole body, the Eliminator did not. Units were made in 90-91, perhaps into 92 or so before it was canceled.

That would be the one! Stumbled across it while I was looking for a pointy Jackson.

The raised ridge is awfully high up for a thumbrest though, at least for me. I'd have to add one somewhat aligned with the split coil. I like the look of the elongated upper horn and the "nub" of the lower horn. Nice aesthetic break from my P's and Jazz bodies. Have no idea what they're worth these days though so I guess I'll just wait until the end and see if I want to spend the money on it.

if that thing sounds like my preamped Charvel 4b bolt-on, and with 24 frets ( for those noodlers who "want" those extra couple frets ) would be a hell of a nice unit to jam on. I am not sure on the neck specs compared to the 22 fret versions, but I would assume it is the same nut size, and back radius on the neck.

If it is totally different, perhaps someone else has one that can tell us the comparison from the "standard" C/J bolt on neck they used for many years.

I was told it was a fusion 4, and yes the ridge is on one side.

Rusty your location says My Old Kentucky Home, If we're not too far apart I'd have no probs meeting and you trying it out.

The contours are much like my P bass, and the ridge looks to be more for looks than any functionality as a thumb rest. I was mildly surprised at the Pickups, as their look and them being active I was expecting more of a EMG type tone but it's really got a more mellow tone than I thought it would. Contrasted with the Growl of my Fender P, it was pretty nice.

Nice weight, nice balance. It's got the 24 fret neck and it seems to be a flatter radius, but I'm at work right now and can't measure the nut or radius. I can look tonight and get back to you on it.

My serial is a C00XXXX, so any idea about it's age/origin?

although serials are useless when the standard 6 digits are used on the plates, but it seems anything with C-xxxxxx or J-xxxxxx correspond to the manufacture date, and that makes sense on that one with c0 = 1990.

Rusty you mentioned their value... Before I made the trade I was looking at completed ones on ebay, and the ones I found that matched this one were going for around 300 plus shipping. So I don't know if that's average or what, but thats the value I have invested in this one.

Thanks, this serial is in the rosewood at the end of the fretboard. Is that normal. Is there another place to look?

You seem very knowledgeable about these, I guess I'm lucky to have stumbled in here. :)

I'm over here by Bardstown, I'd guess about 120 miles away. I'm not sure if I'd have time to travel before the auction ends though, but it does sound like something I might like, especially if it balances well and has a similar shape/feel to the P bass.

$300? Seems like the Jackson/Charvels don't get much love on the used market, do they? That's reasonable, and if I don't like the tone I can always swap out p'ups and/or preamps.

I think I'll keep an eye on that one, it takes me back to the glory days of the late '80s and early '90s. :D Thanks guys!

PS: I found a pic of the Fusion here on TB. It has the same body shape, no ridge, but has a bevel all around the body. I actually prefer the Eliminator's look more.

Heck no! I'm all about buying as cheaply as I can. The cheaper I get my toys for, the more of them I can have.

Back in the heyday of my playing out (late '80s and early '90s), Jackson guitars were everywhere. Thinking back though, I don't recall ever seeing anyone playing a Jackson (or even a Charvel) bass.

I'm giving it some serious thought. I know this may sound a bit odd but I could go for a bit of instant gratification right about now. For the past six months I've been buying up a lot of bodies, necks and parts and then building basses from pieces. Most of them have gotten sold along the way but I've kept a couple of them. The thing is, it takes weeks or even months before I get to play the friggin' things so buying a complete bass would be a nice change right now. I have my favorites, but I still like playing with new toys too.

I've seen both of the Kellys, the one at $625 is way too much. The other one, at $400 is another one I'm watching.

I almost bid on that JPB-7. Almost. I was back and forth right down to the last minute or so, then decided not to. I liked it, but then again I didn't. Just something about it.

That 1B now....Hahahahahaha. I think it'll be there for awhile. Actually, I don't really like the 1B for the same reason I don't like Fender's MIJ Jazz Bass Specials: too much flat real estate on the top without a pickguard to break it up. I'm rebuilding a Jazz Special right now and one thing I'm going to do is spray it with some sort of paint job to break up the monotony.

and yep for many years..Jackson = guitars, not basses. You almost always saw the bassplayer with a Fender unless all guitars wanted to "show" the same name ( AND POINTYHEADS ) :hyper:
then there are some Charvel basses that are very rare, and naturally worth what this guy paid for it ...

beyond the fact it is a 4b which they didnt make a lot of in the first place right before the Jackson name took over and it became the Concert, it is a crackle, and that just makes it more collectible like my lefty 1b which are non-existent.

I never could get into that crackle finish. There was a shop up in Connecticut that had what seemed like a whole wall of them for about a year and a half or so. Every time I'd get up there he'd have a variety of different colors.

I liked my transparent finishes and airbrushed bodies more. Even though I never played a Jackson, if someone were to ask me what represented the late '80s to me I'd have to say Jackson guitars, airbrushed everything, fringed leather jackets and long hair.

Aside from the Jacksons, that describes me from that period too.
