Hey Mike,
sure you're right. That's the one.

Long story short. Friend of mine living is this area. After he checks out the bass in person for me and it all looks legit he stroke a acceptable deal on the bass and ships this baby to me cross the ocean.
Bass sure needed some work. After that I did some addl. 'customizing' with the brass parts. Thanks to Dave W. from 'fretsonthenet'.

It's a great bass. I like it a lot. TBX's are great too. They are all in my 'Jackson Family' :)

OK, in spite of all the Ebay shenanigans, I still managed to score the bass!!! And at a very reasonable price, too. Here she is:

Amazingly, it's in exactly the condition he claimed--hardly a single scuff or ding anywhere on it. Any weird marks in the pics are just reflections. It needs a real setup, but I'd be willing to bet that's because it hasn't been played in 16 years! The strings are even reasonably non-dead. It sounds fantastic, too. Really solid low B, and good fat tone overall. I'll probably swap out the J pup for one that's a bit more hum-canceling, but the P pup is phenomenal sounding. The bridge is cool, it allows spacing adjustment from 15 mm to probably 21 mm. Nice comfy neck profile, with a thin satin finish.

This is an awesome freaking bass, and I'm very glad I took the gamble and pushed through a deal with this guy. :bassist:

I'll say more later after I've had some time with it. It only just arrived a couple hours ago.

ya I saw and for 305, you got a good deal for a C5. If it was a purple C4, I would have probably bid. I just HAD to laugh when I saw him add this to the auction:

cause if someone REALLY offered me 700 for it, it would have been pulled from ebay in 10 seconds after I had the cash, but I'm glad you are the one who ended up with it Bongo-Mania.

IMO they were the Metal versions of Fenders and GIbsons.
Jackson/Charvel guitars really were big in the late 70's early 80's with metal bands. And they were called 'pointy guitars' thanx to Randy Rhoads headstock. Side note: They built Musicman for a while. As far as the basses, they had a meat and potatoes sound unless it featured pre-amp and non standard pickups.

your so close but yet so far the popularity of the Charvels before Jackson was on top of the game was the mid 80's to the mid 90's. Once the Jackson Japan proline was cancelled, it doomed Jackson to survive on guitar sales ( since they really didn't make enough "different" models ) within a specificyear after that beyond one or 2 mainstreamers.

if you look thru the catalogs from let's say 99 to 2009, usually you will find 1-3 models tops within that year....sad, but then Jackson was really never out to hit the market with their bass sales.

1984 San Dimas, Number J00039. First bass made in '84. Bought it new from Sam's Ass in NYC. :cool:

This has been my primo for all these years. I play lots of others all the time thinking I should "upgrade." Nothing really plays as well or sounds as good. So I stay with this one. I can't really complain. She plays like buttah and does the fingerstyle / slappy-poppy switch without a problem.

Ok. It's a little heavy. And all my bandmates have eye patches where the pointy headstock nailed them.

Other than that . . . :D

I have so many I lose count, no SanDimas models, but plenty of others :):)

I actually have 7 Charvel models,

2 -1b's
3 -2b's ( one is a lefty )
1 -3b
1 -4b

and 1 Jackson TBX, quite a Jackson family for those who like them.

I never get into the debate of Jackson VS xxxx brand, as people like what they like, but IMO give me a skinny neck on a "heavy" body, and some good pups, and to me "IT DONT HAVE TO SAY" Fender on it to do everything a Fender does.
