As far as I know, they didn't. The Futura Pro is the EMG/Kahler setup, while the Futura XL is like mine. Both were available at the same time.
The Futura is the 2nd version of the Kip Winger bass. The licensing agreement changed for some reason, so it was only called the "Kip Winger" in the '90/'91 catalog (Jackson uses two-year catalogs occasionally, and it's really annoying when trying to research things) and was P/J with three knobs, even though the catalog pictures an American-made version with FOUR knobs and gold HW in the "Professional" section (yet Kip appears to be holding the actual model in his little pic)! The earliest ones seem to have been lacewood with trans finishes only.
Sometime in '91 (though it first officially appears in the '92 cat, due to the aforementioned two-year catalog), they changed the model name to "Futura", but kept Winger's sig on the truss rod cover of the neck-thru models and came up with a few variations. The "Pro" was lacewood or maple (depending on finish) 2xEMG + Kahler 2440 and was gone by '93, the "XL" was the same except P/J + JB440 and was dropped for '94, and the "EX" was the poplar-bodied bolt-on P/J + JB340, which basically survived until the end of the first Pro/Professional series in '95.
Now, after all that big, convoluted mess, it's fairly easy to date your bass, as you just need the first number of the serial. If it's a 1, then you have a '91, which would make it a pre-catalog "Pro". Whether or not you refer to it as a Winger or a Futura is up in the air (and really just a technicality anyway), as most Jackson guys will call it a Futura, and pretty much everybody else will call it a Winger bass, due to his association with the model.
I usually just say both.

man that stone body was for sale on ebay for EVER....and your right I never see those anymore, like the SUPERCOOL black/white 91 usa crackle 3bNT on ebay this week!!!

to bump the tread with something meaningful, here's my latest ebay find:
I bought 2 from the same seller this week, so he gave me this for 360.00 and 75.00 for the case using the best offer tab.
.THE OTHER BASS is not a Jackson BUT has my favorite finish on it so for 150.00 I took it.

thanks.. it is a 91.. it is a Pro model, but has the Red/Magenta finish on it.. the logo is in MOP..
i suppose it's a transitional model.. i.e. has the four knobs/preamp, EMG35s and the Kahler on it.. but with a solid finish..

Man it's so hard to get hold of a Jackson/Charvel where I live... I love my red Charvel and need to expand my collection with more pointed headstocks
Can anyone tell me more about the "Jackson Performer" basses? Like what year are they from and what models are there? I've read that the Performers are made in Japan and Korea, and the quality can vary, but it's hard to find anything on them.

the PS5 bass was made in 95 only. dot neck, alder body, 250k pots, pretty much the same as the poplar wood 80's charvel "models"
the PS5 is the same unit as my 95CHS-4 just with a pointyhead and not a sandimas fenderhead.

Ah so the only Jackson Performer bass is the PS5. Ok thanks! I'm going to check one out this weekend. I wonder what it's like 
I live in The Netherlands, so basically I constantly scout all the occasions and websites of the country because I don't like buying a bass that I haven't held in my hands (I've seen some on Ebay in Germany but yeah...) (BTW I spoke to you on YouTube, my account name is Alphamage2007. Fun to meet you here again.)

speaking of PS5's a friend from the JCF just put his together -repaint, fin stickers over the dots, very nice looking indeed. I'll get his pics and post them here later so you can check it out.
