ok jackson gurus! i have a chance to but a jackson ex futura in mint condition. has anyone played this bass and is it a well balanced bass? the price is good with me but there is a concert ex i like as well at the same price. what do the futuras ususally price for and what were they new/ any help is great.
I have had a couple Futuras....still have one. It is lighter than the concert. It is more curvy looking than a concert it balances no differnet than a concert, it sounds the same...I dunno, if I had a bunch of p-bass bodies in my house I would welcome something slightly different.
Do you know if they are rare? it doesnt really matter just like to have more info on that bass.

poplar body, made in japan looks similar to a guild pilot.
came in 3 trim levels EX, LX and KipWinger models, passive except for the K.W.
the Kipwinger neckthru version is rare, HOWEVER the lefty version is 100% rarer. And price, I would love to find one for 200, but that just won't be too easy, more like 300-400 only to someone who likes them.

I need help with this bass, it was given to me by a bandmate that no longer wants to play bass. I plugged it in and no sound. I changed the battery and nothing, my experience with electronics is NONE. And can anyone tell me what is that black box, never seen anything like it.

you could pull all that out and wire it up passive if someone somehow messed up the preamp which is really really hard to blow up.

I recently bought a Jackson KS2 Kellybird on sale for $242 delivered. I was blown away by the quality. Worth every penny and then some. Do a search I reviewed it.
I'd be impressed if they actually released the Kellybird V that Ellefson plays live! Instead, we get 2 versions of the Concert Series (JS3V & CB-XV) and a 4 string Kellybird.
So I though my Black Jackson was a JS or Dave Ellefeson sig, I guess its a CMG ? Any way to confirm what it is. I dont care for the tone of it but I think there may be an issue with the electronics. Should probably try a new battery but it sounds really muffled compaired to my other basses.
Do you have a better pic of it? It looks like either a CB-X or a JS3 (the CB-X has closer spaced knobs & a 1/4-sawn neck), to me.
Sidenote: I ordered a CB-XV yesterday. ^_^ Should arrive (hopefully) next week.

As a youngster in the late 80s I remember I wanted a crackle-finish USA Jackson Concert Bass SO BAD! I sent away for their full-color catalog. It took like 3 months for them to send it but when I ever opened that large envelope that came in the mail...it was better that Xmas!!
