Jaco's '63 Jazz Bass for sell???

I actually remember this bass hanging in "We Buy Guitars" on 48th Street back in the early to mid 90's. It was selling for around $30K is as far as I remember and came with two necks.

IIRC, that wasn't actually Hendrix's guitar. He lost his guitar before the show that day, so he stole Pete Townshend's guitar, and ended up lighting it on fire.

If a potential buyer can truly verify the authenticity, I would not be surprised one bit if this sold for that kind of coin. Think about it... JT probably has $75k in his Conklin/Low End/Ritter collection. Some music historian would probably much rather that one piece of bass history than all of those ERBs!

I wouldn't though! :smug:

This thread gets the 'Most Posters Who Haven't Bothered Reading It Before Posting' award, in spite of it being extremely informative, topical and information filled at the same time.

Sorry for the OT comment but it really bugs me more than it should. I wouldn't barge into an ongoing discussion with facile comments without having heard what was said before, it's just bad form. Particularly not to insult a participant who has graciously apologized for previous unconsidered comments.

Back to scheduled programming...

I would love to play Jaco's bass if I had the $75,000, but I really don't like the new flame maple top. I wish they'd left the original "reliced" sunburst finish intact--that bass had a lot of "mojo" LOL!! Does anyone know if the boat epoxy that Jaco applied himself is still on the neck? that would be cool playing it, knowing he'd epoxied it himself.

There's a huge difference between making a mistake and NOT BOTHERING TO READ THE THREAD.

I'm another that this pisses off....it's a rude, arrogant and ultimately stupid, thing to do and far too much of it goes on. Guess it's just all the self important people desperate to interject their, usually wrong, opinions and info.

It's a simple courtesy to read a thread before posting in it. I'm not sure why pointing that out attracted an argument.

Just a thought ...buy a nice custom shop @2k..... hang it on the wall, lie to your friends. save 73k.... the only one who would know would be jerks like me that send way to much time on TB :)

-A bass is for sale in NY.
-It is probably a bass Jaco Pastorius has owned. It is not the "bass of Doom".
-The actual documentation that Jaco owned the bass is slim, but it still seems likely he did, though.
-The asking price is $75 000.
-Almost everyone wants this bass.
-Almost no one can afford this bass.
