Jaco's '63 Jazz Bass for sell???

The price is indeed $75,000 OBO. I asked in my email what verification they had to prove it was one of Jaco's basses:

Price is $75,000. or Closest offer.
This is the bass purchased from Albert Molinaro (Guitars Are Us and author
of the Fender Bass Book). In addition Jaco's family viewed the bass as well
from it's current owner. All the wear marks on the bass can easily be
matched up as well.

I figured it'd be in the 5 digits but WOW...... not sure what to think of this.....Man, I'd have to sell everything I owned to get it (IF I was seriously wanting it and I'm not but hell yea, if I had the money laying around (HAHAHA) I'd go for it) and Im not selling my Cowpoke or my T40 for nothing, not even one of Jaco's [supposed] basses....

Good news! I have just started a bass museum to coincide with this previous post. There is a spot in my attic, I mean uh...Atticus Wing of the museum open for this prized bass. Feel free to donate it when you get da dough.

WHY?

It's called free enterprise. If I had that bass you can bet I would be willing to sell it for profit. It's just a bass after all.

That bass means nothing to a huge percentage of the worlds population. It is just an old Fender bass to most people.

It is no different than any other heirloom item that any person keeps. My Wife has family pictures that to her are priceless. To you those same pictures, are just old worthless black and white photographs. Both perceptions of value are correct.

...and I was simply saying before that it'd be neat to have it in a museum somewhere so people like me and most TBer's on here who can't afford $75,000 can go visit and look at it up closely instead of it hanging on the wall in some dude's house that we'll probably never get the chance to see.

Obviously, I don't know the first thing about starting a non-profit museum :rollno:

People sure are defensive on this thread today, jeez! :p

it could possibly be the real thing..but itd take some research to find out. he did mention in the video how he put a new neck on it for that time period (the maple board P neck) but this is obviously the original neck.

it seems possibly, but somewhat unlikely.

I thought I presented you with a viable option and it's not that difficult to do. Sounds like I called your bluff, it would be "neat" as long as it is no work on your part. Things aren't handed to us on a silver platter....

Should someone who owns something of value forgoe cash in their pocket so the less fortunate can stare at it in a glass case? Sounds like a pretty socialist type view to me!

If you have something you believe in stand up and do something about it otherwise why bother making that type of statement.

The only 'documentation' that I got when I asked was the comment that I posted in my last post.

The comments on the insignificance of this bass to the none bass player world is interesting considering a friend that I IM a lot and is not a musical anything has been listening to me going on about this bass. LOL Hes afk right now picking his kid up from school but I will ask him when he gets back just what that 'beat' up Jazz is to him. I know [before he left] I mentioned that the bass I showed him a pic of was $75,000 he was like 'ONLY?' O_O..... he doesn't get it and really when one thinks about it it is just a bass. BUT it was Jaco's bass (even if not for long perhaps) and there is the belief that kharma does rub off. So hypothetically, his kharma is on that beast. Which reminds me of what was said by the people in the article about the Bass of Doom -- what they said regarding how it felt and played; 'Like it knew what to do and how to act'.....

Kharma is what is behind the price of that bass more then anything I feel and the chance for someone to hold what he held, and try to feel it when he held it...any of that make any sense? :p

Just some random thoughts on the matter.

GBase is a collection of guitar stores- especially for a while, many many "mom & pop" type stores had their sites and inventories listed through GBase. That way, if someone was looking for... say a Pearce B2P, and a "mom & pop" store in Buffalo had one- it was listed in the national GBase inventory.

Around 4 years ago one of Jaco's AMP amps was for sale, with a letter of provenance on AMP stationary.
