Jad Freer Sisma Mega Thread.

I had my first gig with the Sisma and Venere cabs last night, and the rig performed beautifully. This was with my acoustic band, and I play both upright and acoustic bass guitar. We did have some feedback issues onstage, but they were related to our violin player and our acoustic guitar player. The sound tech loved the Sisma's DI, and to the best of my knowledge, the bass never had any feedback issues in the mains (unlike the other instruments). I did have a few times in the evening when I did get feedback through the rig, but that was when the guitar was cranked in the mains/monitors, and I had to turn up a decent bit. I had plenty of volume - and the most I have played with in this band - with almost no feedback issues. I was very impressed. I am also impressed at how well this rig conveyed the unique tone of each instrument. The cabs are very much on the "uncolored, balanced-response" side, and everything really sounded great.

I did also use my Phil Jones Earbox, which I have definitely needed in the past when my rig could not get loud enough (without feedback) for me to hear everything clearly, but it was definitely overkill at this gig.

I did stop by and checked out the Jad Freer rig! It was interesting to hear the Minerva 210. Great rig! The Olinto basses were also excellent!

I was gonna grab an Olinto awhile back and I'm sorry I didn't. Prices are now more than I wanna spend. But I have other basses and a Capo and a Sisma so I'll stop whining now. What did you like about the speakers? I would like to hear them also.

The amp era I grew up in, if you didn’t hear a hiss when really pushing the volume, it meant you’re amp wasn’t loud enough!

I have the Venere series speakers in for review, and they are designed to be more "uncolored" and "Hi-Fi." The Minerva series is a bit more "voiced," but only in the sense that they sound like "bass cabs." It's hard to really get a feel for things at NAMM, because there is so much other noise going on, but I thought the Minerva 210 sounded very full, with a stronger low-mid response than the Venere. All in all, it's more like what we all typically expect from a high-end bass 2x10. The Venere is a bit more like some of the FRFR cabs.

I do still have both of my Mesa heads, 800+ and WD800. I was mostly using the WD800 prior to Sisma. I can't get technical because I don't know technical. Obviously the feature set is different. Only thing I can say is that it's working for me. I didn't get it to replace my Mesa heads, I'm keeping both and using them also. I was just interested in JFA's build and wanted to hear how they approached it. Having the available cash allows me to have fun. And I've been having much fun with it. I'm sorry that I can't give you tech stuff about the differences. I can say that if you get a Sisma there is nothing disappointing about it. Only change I would like is a pre post EQ switch on the DI. And not for me but for FOH option. But is has gone through many FOH systems since I've had it and no complaints from sound techs about that as they say what I'm giving them has been working easy for them. So I'm good as is.

Well that tells me enough, you are not getting rid of your Subway heads :thumbsup:

The Sisma heads sound interesting.

I'll just have to get on "the list" and try it for myself.

Althought all my basses have humbuckers, I had noticed that Sisma was incredibly silent, compared to other amps, regarding the fan and hum. It's the kind of little details that make a huge difference. Once you get used to it, it's hard to come back to "normal" noise. We're spoiled, really.
