I love how heated Cliff fans get when someone insults Cliff and the same goes for Jason Newstead, I don't think any bassist in the world has never made a sloppy track for a song. Even heroes like Geddy and Ox probably had their bad moments, who the hell cares though? I like the song, it sounds good to my ears, I highly suggest everyone stops whining about who was the best Metallica bassist because their IS NO COMPARISON, they were DIFFERENT BASSIST with DIFFERENT STYLES. End of story.

My guess is that the original poster is a Cliff Burton fan who doesn't like Newsted, and posted this thread just as a blacklash for the 'Cliff Burton - Sloppy' thread. Just a guess

Sloppy? I disagree. He's using a pick with lots of dirt, playing hard. Pretty damn good, Id say. Ive heard plenty of pros play solo'd, pretty typical for that style. What do u expect?

I agree. I can't say this is a s****** track, to me it sounds pretty good! I love the attack and distortion on it. I can say though, that I've recorded some takes and my band (past and prior) have felt them better than others even though I thought it could be redone for a proper recording. I'd say Jason might have thought this but also, when you take into account of the "mix" comment stated prior.... I'd say f*** it too myself and grab my check. I love Metallica's music, but never for the bass playing after Burton. (And I'm not a fan boy, I'm just going on from what I've listened to.... sadly )

In closing, I've heard Trujillo (sp?) has done some movements towards helping the meter of the songs and worked with the band to make a positive approach. I've always respected his playing and I'm sure, as a player like him, he's not okay producing something that sounds like trash. (Unless that's what he's going for. )

I'm certainly not a metallica fan, but I have to add my $.02 and say that bass track kicked ***. Awesome tone and well played.

In fact I play a P/J with a pick and I'm looking into buying a new amp, that's pretty much the exact tone I want to end up with. Any suggestions while we're on the topic of how great that sounds? ($500 and under preferably)

because its taken from the game rock band, which uses the master recordings. its real, as are the others.
