Jaydee basses

WOW that is a beaut! How does she sound in passive mode compared to active

I dont often use the active eq, I have always prefered the passive sound, I set up the active eq for slap so its just a flick of the toggle switch and solo time. I friend is also in the process of ordering a "mark king" from john after playing mine. He says that the pups are way better on the new ones than on mine, which over 25 years old, in which case you are absolutely guaranteed to be happy with the tone IMHO. Mine in passive has massive amounts of tonal variation, which is why I hardly ever run the eq. The workmanship on these basses is top class. The bridge is cool, it is made up of several components that skrew togeather and locks onto a brass block bonded into the neck lam's flush with the body, I compleatly strip mine every couple of years to polish an clear coat. By the way, get used to the idea of people guessing what it is, repeat after me, No its not an alembic!:rollno: keep us posted on the whole process. My GAS list is just more of these. frets, no frets Im not fussy:hyper:

Thank you for the info! It makes me feel better about going passive with this Roadie II 5. I am not a huge fan of active controls. I will be putting my down payment in two weeks and then have 16 months to go!!:D

no problem, a pleasure, My only issue is I have never played a JD 5, so dont know what the neck is like, just hope its as good as the 4.
Thats a long wait, but worth it I think, my friend was quoted 2 years, Owww. Just to make you sick, I had 5 different ones off the peg, to choose from, three Supers and two roadie I 's when i bought mine, in the days when Jay Dee's where still fairly unknown. I nearly took a black one, that was a close call. PM me if you want any more info, may not have all the answers, but will help where I can.
Richard.

Ok .. here is what it will mostly look like but a 5er..

But with this head stock

Curious choice on the headstock. Did you think about getting it in the GA24 shape so you would have a full 24 frets, see the following link:

Congrats, great choice. On the advice of session guy I knew I bought a supernatural as a teenager new back in 84-85, a year or so before it changed to the "Mark King" model. I had to use the bus to pay for it for a couple of years. This is still my bass of choice, no other neck feels like it. I have NEVER been tempted to sell it, not ever. If you like a sublime action and an increadibly fast neck you will be over joyed with Johns basses. There is a reason you dont see these basses up for sale often, once you have one you're hooked. I dont have a great photo with me, but its the one on the far right.

I know what you mean, owning 40+ basses the jaydee gets the most attention, really hard to put it down.

Here's my exact copy of the JD Mark King was playing back in the '80s.
The P/ups on this, were originally mounted on MK main bass. It's an absolute dream to play!

Well I have just got a new job which will be bringing in more $ so I have been looking for having a custom fretless made and ran across Link Removed . He seems to be making some really great stuff. I sent him an email today for an all white fretless.. anyone heard of this guy
I have one. They are fantastic basses. I lived and played in England for a few years and got mine in a trade with another bass player in Newcastle. The luthier is John Diggins (a.k.a. Jaydee). I've owned a ton of high end basses and this is definitely in that class. It's a very similar to an Alembic but i like the neck on my JayDee more. The one i have is the Mark King model (from the 80's i believe. It's a great slap funk bass with both pickups on but the bridge pickup alone is simply beautiful The first time i played one, i could only describe it as sounding like a grand piano. And.....if i'm reading this right, you live in Austin? Small world. So do i. If you like i could arrange for you to give mine a try. Let me know--------Ed.
