Jazz vs P-Bass vs Stingray Vs rickenbacker

While lately I've been playing my Stingray more, I voted P. It's always my go to bass in a pinch, and has never let me down.
I've owned a few G&Ls, and still prefer Fenders over G&L - and IIRC, Leo was selling G&Ls when he made that statement...
I'm not familiar enough with Stingrays, never played one but own Rics, Fender Jazzes and Fender Precision's and Fender P/J basses and all are great but I had to select P/J basses, I didn't even see it at first. I would think that more people here play them two one of whom was me. If I hadn't selected P/J I would have selected Precision's as I mostly use only the P pickup or heavily favor it. I would not be afraid to bring any of them on a gig though.
Nothing ... I like the Ray tone a lot for a-la Chic/Edwards like things .. however I don't like the Ray slap tone ... too thin for me nor I'd see myself playing a rock tune with it ... it's s particular bass for particular applications
Love ceramic pups!
Stingray SR5s were equipped with ceramic pups from '93 to 2008. I keep an SR5 from within that timeframe.
I love the alnico pups, too.

I usually give a thumbs up when I see you post one of these basses but, since you posted both this time, two thumbs up you shall have!
I'm sure Messrs Levin. Deacon, Denman and Palladino would all agree...
Bah... points of view although Pino plays also a P bass ... the rock I like was predominantly played with Ricks, P and Jazz basses ... the Ray is clear and crisp.. sometimes it's ok but I see it better placed in a different context

So the L2500 feels like home.
Tone of darn near anything in the listed "one bass to rule them all" list is achievable from either.
More so the L2500.

While I voted none of the above (seeing as I would definitely pick a Thunderbird out of all if the options), the one bass I'd consider off of this list would be a P-bass. Simply bas(s)ed off the fact that my first real bass was a P. But a standard P would be too boring, so I'd go with my 2001 MIJ '51 R.I. I love it.

Yeah, I knew the SR5s used to have ceramics, then they changed them - I had one of the BFR "roasty" SR5 HH that was an absolutely beautiful bass, but it's alnico pups didn't stand out in the mix enough for the band I was in at the time... I actually traded it for the Sterling 5 HS I have now and some cash with another TBer - worked out pretty well for both of us...
