I don't know about 'wipe the floor' oh! You mean get the saw-dust off the floor after I'd have to take a sander or zaw-zaw or something to round off the top edge of the model I tried some yrs ago. Just kidding:) I'm sure they contoured the body for guys like me. Didn't they?

I do not like Fender Jazz basses. I like that model of some of the other builders, but.... yawn. My main bass now happens to be a Roscoe Century 6j. The only thing remotely jazz about it is the aperture and placement of the pickups are similar. Style, construction, etc., are vastly different. The kicker: it has the capability to get an awesome P tone.

If it wasn't for that bass, I would choose P-bass. Even Fender P-basses, I love. Even better, ideal even, would be a PJ, non-Fender. That's my #2 currently. I could easily do everything I need to with a nice PJ 5 and not miss anything.

This is a tough one for me. :unsure: It's easy (for ME) to narrow it down to the Precision or the Jazz. I like the other two as well, but the Fenders are physically much more comfortable to play. An HH Stingray would be a consideration, but with the more traditional single H 'Rays, I don't care for the placement of the pickup (from a comfort standpoint). I miss having a pickup to anchor my thumb when I'm playing the E-string. (I float on the other strings, but like having my thumb on the pickup for the E.) And with the Rics (at least the 4001/4003's), they're just not as comfortable to me as the Fenders or the 'Ray.

When I play out or jam, I normally grab a P-Bass just because it sits so well with the guitars and drums. But I also love the Jazz. After waffling back and forth for awhile though, I guess my ultimate choice would be one of my Precisions.

I voted P bass, Jazz a close second. Apples to oranges sure but both are classic solid choices. Ric's are nice but can be pricey and I don't have too much experience with Sting Rays other then a OLP copy I had which I am sure hardly compares to a actual Ray although for what it was I'll say it was easy to play and sound ok.

I can get an MIM second hand that doesn't require me to destring the bridge every time I want to adjust the saddles. I can get a second hand American Standard Jazz that doesn't need me to adjust the truss rods on two sides of the neck. And frankly, despite all the hype I've been given, I tried a 4001 in the store and was underwhelmed with the sound. That's just the way it went for me. And I know that I can adjust the sound to my liking with the myriad of pickups out there for Rickys, I can get rid of the bridge problems with the hipshot bridge they made for Rickys and the stereo plugs are actually useful for me. But that all cost extra money and it would just be easier for any luthier, and myself to get a different bass. Now I'm going to sit and contemplate why I'm arguing with a stranger so seriously.

I have this Skjold that looks like a J, has pickups placed somewhere like they would be on a Stingray, but has a double humbucker setup. So it's sort of the best of all worlds while really living in none of them. It's its own thing, and I don't think Pete ever made another one like it. It's an unofficial Will Greer signature Skjold.

The P started as a '77. New Orleans humidity killed the neck, so I got a wenge Warmoth replacement and love it. Switched out bridge to a Badass II and the pickup to a Bartolini. In a drunken moment (9 years sober now!) I removed the original black finish for some reason, but I really liked the result when I woke up the next day, so I just rubbed tung oil on it and left it that way. The J project is same materials, except the body is Warmoth.
