Jazzcore.

I can dig the flow bit - it's pretty jagged, not for everyone - but that Metallica comment is way off. Our boy teaches jazz for a living, and is probably one of the most accomplished timekeepers in Melbourne (Melbourne being Australia's music capital). If you can't hear the absolute insanity that he manages in that song, you're deaf.

Actually, on a second listening I can hear more clearly what he, and the rest of you are doing. I just find that the recording you did took away some of the subtleties of what he was doing. Specifically, I'm really not fond of that snare sound, especially for how high in the mix it is.

I was gonna say... whoa, how can you not get a kick out of his cool rhythms and stuff? He doesn't really care much for flashy, busy drumming (ala. Brann Dailor from Mastodon), but he knows exactly where even the most minute subdivision is and just how to exploit it like a coked-up whore. Love him.

The snare is up for debate, I suppose. We wanted a really natural sound, so there was no processing or fancy studio-work done on any of his kit. It rings! You never hear ringing snares! Yay!
