JBL PRX 7 series?

1 more question before we pull the trigger.

When using a powered system (i.e. JBK or QSC), how is the signal sent to the mains (using a 1 sub system) so that xtreme lows aren't sent to 12" mains? Is a separate crossover or limiter needed, or do the mains have one built in to keep the bass drum from blowing a speaker?

The sub has a built-in crossover, so you send the output from the board to the sub, make sure the crossover is activated, then send the output from the sub to the mains. This is for the JBLs. The crossover is in the sub, not the mains in the PRX612M. The JBLs do not have a separate HPF and crossover (although the crossover is technically an HPF).

Works great and is an easy set up.
 
I'm very satisfied with our PRX615, PRX 618xlf setup. Yes 1 sub will work on low volume gigs to spread the low end.

That said... check out the Yamaha DXR line of speakers. I recently replaced my eon 510's with the Yamaha DXR10's. I'm very impressed.
 
They arn't lost. The listed figures are where the crossover takes over and there is a slope down from there. The frequencies are attenuated some. Beings the sub cuts @ 90 it slopes down toward the upper freqs. The tops are cut at 120 and sloped down toward the lower freqs. The two sloping towards each other makes up the difference. You'll NEVER hear it. Promise. I own the PRX712s and LOVE THEM. I ABC'd the PRX712, K12 and the EV ZLX12s. The JBLS blew them away. THAT is why I own them. Just MHO.

I love our PRX712s. Now we need a sub so the 1st look is the 718XLF... although that new SRX818sp looks really tasty for not much more bread.

the SRX series was the VRX just without the fly hardware!...they discontinued this series for this reason, and it was cheaper and people were buying SRX over the VRX for that reason...looks like i have a few phone calls to make

If you're making the call ask about the performance of the PRX 718 vs SRX 818 subs! The 818 has a noticeably higher performance in the 90 to 120 hz range per their spec sheets
 
the SRX are going to perform way better regardless. the old SRX series were awesome...one of the most robust subs i have ever used. very curious about the new one. you will probably find that if you were looking for a pro end tour cabinet the SRX would be the way to go, but a solid mid level sub the PRX718XLF is a great choice for its $$$

Yeah I'm struggling pulling the trigger on a PRX718XLF when that guy is out there. I like the improved specs from 90hz to 120 hz. I'd prefer my crossover a bit higher than 90hz going into the 712s to save em some breathing room. I'm still amazed that the consensus is no big deal with the 718xlf cutting off at 90 hz & the tops starting at 120hz. If I could fill those frequencies where the kick is supposed to punch best Id imagine the difference would be audible. I'd rather the sub do it than lowering my crossover in the 712s to 100hz or so
 
These new for 2015 EVs are pretty nice, similar response curve to the 718PRX but about -10hz less deep maybe gain that back on the other end getting to 110hz before it falls off vs the PRX falling off around 100hz. 72 lbs vs 82 lbs & $999 vs $1399 MAP.

EV's powered stuff hard limits way too quickly...i wouldn't bother, although they do sound nice, just limits too early, especially in a live band environment.

TBH the 700 series JBL is nice, its great series. and you won't notice the "frequency gap" (for lack of better terms). and i suggest to not bother with an external crossover. it has it all built in, but let the JBL speakers work their voodoo magic!

From doing some reading they say the EKX line is in between the ELX & ETK line. Id guess its much closer to the ELX ranges judging by the woofer. Id MUCH prefer the JBL PRX series over these new EKX range 1.5" compression driver vs a cheaper 1" for starters.

BTW: Found that the manual & spec sheet differ for the internal crossover for the 718XLF. Manual says 90hz spec sheet says 100hz
