Jeff Andrews a Jaco clone??? Or a lot more

ok i watched the first video. which part does NOT sound like jaco? i heard alot more buzzing and unclear notes than i ever heard jaco play. tons of them. i cannot play what he is playing, but i do have my own style

the part where he sounds comfortable taking a solo live with connected phrases and ideas rather than disconnected fragments.
that dude is far from a Jaco.
the phrasing, tone, and color of the the notes are close, but please don't bore me with direct comparisons. Jaco drew an extremely different landscape with almost every nuance of every note. this dude is just playing stuff we have all heard before, sorry!

this guy could play for hours and to me,... i'd need at least 20 guesses! even Jeff Berlin sounds generic. even TB's Mike Dimin(sp) has a more recogniseable sound than Andrews or Berlin, IMHO.

Perfect! Never heard it put so well. Although I am somewhat of a Jaco fanboy being a hometown hero and all, that doesn't even bother me.

Jeff is a great player who, IMHO, was thrust into the unenviable postilion of replacing Jaco on the Joni Mitchell gig. Musically, you can definitely hear the Jaco influence but I think he has a very different sense of melodicisim, especially in his solos. Fundamentally, he does a REALLY nice job of developing a solo - he gets the idea of phrasing, of developing a solo from a short melodic phrase and building on it. Nice stuff (although I could do w/o that little hammer on trill thing he seems to be fond of)

I think Jeff sounds great! I used to hear him with Stern at the 55 in the 80's. I don't know where he went, but the guy's got phrasing, idea's, sound, what's not to like? Seems that he had some pretty well known employers who could call anyone they wanted and they called him. I don't know what he's up to now, but I'd like to hear it.
There are a number of guys who have been influenced by Jaco that you can hear in their playing. Doesn't make them a clone.

Well his improvisation and melodic phrasing is better than Jaco's so yes, I'd have to say he's gone much further than just being a clone.
I remember, I am from the Bronx Gottlieb clan and you the Brooklyn clan. Bass brunch is great. I wish I could make it every time. Mike V was nice enough to schedule this one to fit my little mini tour schedule

after our last discussion about touch and callouses i now understand what you mentioned about your objectives. i accused you of having too light of a touch and now see what you meant about controlling overtones, harmonics, and dynamics relative to tone.
again, very well done!
EDIT: +1 on the hammer/trill technique which also plagues some of Jeff Berlin's finest work, IMO.

yes he likes the bridge pickup sound, but he has his own vocabulary, harmonic concept, and prhasing.
id say he sounds as much like jaco as joe henderson sounds like coltrane. they both played tenor and soloed on changes but each had their own thing. in my opinion of course
