Jeff Beck R.I.P.

This is really a sad one. No one played like Jeff Beck and few even tried. I saw him after the Blow by Blow release and it was an unforgettable show. Rough and Ready is an earlier album that was also phenomenal. Since this is TB I will make mention of his choice of electric bassists - always spot on. His voice on the guitar was so very unique, you notice how you never hear another player's style being compared to Beck's. The phrasing, the tone, the execution, the cutting edge harmonies - what a loss.

The two baddest jazz/rock fusion albums came from Jeff Beck: “Wired” and “Blow by Blow”.

Masterpieces.

They both feature killer bass playing, too.

I never met a musician that did not love that album.
Impeccable playing. An earlier album with the Jeff Beck Group called Rough and Ready is another one. I saw him after Blow by Blow (and maybe Wired) and his playing on those tunes was on a par with the recordings - actually being live, even better. You're right, great taste in bassists.

So sad. Jeff was still undiminished at 78, to go so suddenly.... This is a big loss.

His control of his instrument and his imagination, made him unique and uncopiable. His tone and the feelings he could wring out of a Strat were/are unmatched. Such a generous person towards other musicians too. For Jeff it was always about the music, not the fame and he was always willing to share and appreciate others. Just look at his reactions to Tal's solo in the clip bellow.

This is so true. You never hear another guitarists playing or style compared to Beck's. No one even bothered trying.

I saw him play several times, the first in '72 in Gainesville Florida at UF with Beck, Bogart and Appice. They were amazing. I wrote this tune a while back as a tribute to him called Thanks JB. My close friend Harry Jacobson played guitar on it.

I enjoyed this composition of yours very much. I think it's very, very good. A very fitting tribute to Jeff - albeit one written when he was still with us - and your friend's playing is phenomenal.

I was fortunate enough to see Stevie Ray and Jeff on the Guitar Shop Tour. Ah, good times…

awwww at least I got to see him live
Bholder...
Me too...
I saw him when he toured w Santana... Bozio on the kit, and Pino on bass, I think Max on keys...
He came on before Santana... His playing was so sublime, that I couldn't enjoy Santana, and Santana was one of my earliest favorites...
Beck was so good, I was thoroughly musically saturated by the end his set... Like a Thanksgiving dinner that you can't eat another morsel... He was that good!
One of the things I noticed was the uncanny control he had on the guitar... Like his thoughts immediately were translated through his fingers and amps...
I've seen a number of GREAT players, but they did not demonstrate this level of control...
I couldn't focus on Santana, as he was playing... All I could think about was Beck's playing... I really should have left the venue, but as I said, Santana was one of my earliest, and I wanted to see him...

Wanted to see Beck again this summer, couldn't get anyone to go with me!!... Dragged my feet buying a ticket, then they were sold out... Said to myself, I'll catch him next time around... Kicking myself in the butt!
Last time I said that, was when SRV toured w Beck in the 80's...
Woulda, coulda, shoulda!!!
RIP Jeff Beck, A vacuum has been created, that will not be filled by your absence!

RIP Jeff Beck. One of my favorite guitarists. I just love his work on the song People Get Ready. This clip is just plain beautiful. Added benefit of also hearing the great Tal Wilkenfeld and Joss Stone. Hearing this really hits home for this 71 year old bassist as I see more and more of the musicians from my youth pass on. They may be gone but their music lives on. So long Jeff.
