Jeff Berlin apology

Good for him. I do hope it sticks this time, because he has apologized in the past (as he acknowledges in the video) then gone back to criticizing. Jeff is a brilliant bass player and an excellent teacher (as are Victor and Steve), but the constant conflict detracts from his message, which is otherwise perfectly reasonable. He can continue to advocate for his own beliefs without denigrating others.

While I honor this and wish him all positivity going forward, he didn't have to apologize to Berklee IMHO - it's a garbage place. Lord of the Flies goes to band camp in a straight-up money grab.

All the best, Jeff. You earned back a human being point or two.

Words mean things and everyone should be held accountable. We live in a time where open aggression, name calling, insulting and blatant disrespect of what you don't believe in is the norm. We have systematically become numb and complacent to all the negativity. No one is perfect, but it is very enlightening to see someone step up, take accountability for their words and actions and to become aware of their own role as a human being living and working with others.

I once had a lesson with Roy Vogt, Bass Chair at Belmont here in Nashville, and he was wonderful, and made me feel like I was a contemporary of his, not some 10-thumbed hack, and I'm sure I got more from that one lesson with RV than hours with anyone else. These are the kinds of people JB should take his cues from, and I believe he'll be pleasantly surprised they'd love to do it.

Roy is fantastic. A genuinely nice guy. I used to work with his wife years ago. Both are quality individuals.

I should probably stay out of this argument, it's a good thing Jeff did and it wasn't necessarily a bad thing he initially threw out there because he saw anomalies in the pedagogy. I guess he thought he could address it but he did so clumsily. I have the many of the same issues with electric bass instructionals...

And I will say this about YouTube, there's a lot of people on YouTube that have no business demonstrating instruments in general, except maybe for an unboxing video... but when the first passage is played... the truth cannot be hidden.
That said... a lot of folks post videos on YouTube for fun and personal enjoyment. So I'm the filter or the viewer is the filter and that's the way it should be.
