Thank you Jeff. Often as players we get into creative ruts but there are academic ruts as well where we aren't learning new information. I can only speak for myself but I get frustrated by sitting down and just regurgitating exercises, scales, or anything that i've already learned. It's difficult to go into detail on musical facts online because without face to face contact we can't demonstrate questions or answers but if anything, this thread has motivated me to seek out new information(via certain topics and suggestions here) and adjust my general attitude towards revitalising my musical growth and quest for knowledge.
Often it is best not to review some exercises that you have already learned, but to move on and learn new ones. It is a mixture of the two experiences. Sometimes review is good and sometimes it is best to move on to new things to keep music fresh. I opt for the second experience over the first, but I have also found reason to tell guys to go back and review some things. I've done this myself.
